Magnificent,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Navarre Bible: St. Luke (The Navarre Bible: New Testament) (Paperback)
This whole series is magnificent. I gave it to a monastery who said they had "never seen anything like it" and "it is never out of use". If I were stranded on a desert island and allowed only one set of books, this would be it.

This review is from: The Navarre Bible: St. Luke (The Navarre Bible: New Testament) (Paperback)
The Navarre Bible commentary series is very comprehensive and a great devotional guide. Each page contains the Latin text, vernacular text and commentary. I chose the Gospel of Luke review because I was recently greatly helped in my understanding of the passage in Lk. 16 stating "make friends with the mammon of iniquity." This is difficult to understand and the Navarre Bible explains it in simple language. The section headings for passages is also very useful, for example, the aforementioned verse occurs during Christ's famous journey to Jerusalem. This sheds a lot of light for meditation on the gospel texts.

An excellent edition of St. Luke.,

The Navarre College's commentary and text of the Gospel of St. Luke is an excellent rendition of this particular book of the Bible. Featuring both the Latin Vulgate and the English translation, along with a great deal of selected commentaries, many of which are from Jose Maria Escrivá.This edition is excellent, making it ideal for the casual reader, the Bible study, and the Latin scholar alike.

It is a very nice book. However, I haven't learned anything new so far. Will keep at it.

I lead a Bible study for 5 years using The Navarre Commentaries. They are a safe source for the truth about what the Bible means. The commentary uses extensive quotes from the Early Church Fathers and The Catechism of The Catholic Church. |
