1.0 out of 5 stars Am I missing something...?
Gosh, I really wish I felt the way all the 5 star reviewers did..., but I just don't get it.... The only movements that I remember that were even targeted at my abs were really sloooow crunches, variations on leg lifts, and slow bicycle moves. There is way too much rest in between movements. If you are even somewhat fit, I don't know how you could possibly feel a burn...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, Tough, Ab Work., March 29, 2006
This review is from: Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett (DVD)
What I love about Ravi & Anas DVDs is the way they make it so easy to get into the workout. I am never quite sure when the warm-ups end and the "real" workout begins--the transitions are that flowing & smooth.

The workout begins with seated waist circles and flexes to warm the spine then we do a sort of cat/cow sitting on the heels. The majority of the workout is performed lying on your back, where you do simple yet challenging crunches with breathing to warm the abs, then you do reverse crunches, then different leg extensions, cobras to lenghten the abs, and twists etc... Everything designed to target the abdominal area. After a quick rise to a standing position, the workout returns to the floor and ends with a lying relaxation pose.

Although the moves become gradually more difficult, I think that most beginners will be able to perform the majority of this workout. I definitely believe that this workout has helped me to develop stronger, more well defined, abs. Ravi Singh & Ana Brett are wonderful instructors--he has a calming voice, her poses are flawless, the instructions are clear and precise, and they are not too "new age-y." I would definitely recommend this dvd for anyone looking to thoroughly exercise their abdominals in an interesting and effective way.
I have never done meditaion before but there is a meditation at the end that I sometimes do because it is fun and it is supposed to be for prosperity which is a good incentive( I can buy more Ana & Ravi DVDs!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Pilates Plus!!!!!, February 14, 2006
This review is from: Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett (DVD)
I don't write many reviews of products but I have never felt such enthusiam for yoga DVD's as I have for the Ana & Ravi workouts I have recently received and just had to share.
I just received this DVD 2 weeks ago and in that time have found new power in my "core". Not only are my abs leaning out and my back feeling more stable. I feel this one is firing up my metabolism!
Some of the ab exercises remind me of pilates work I have done (and incorporate into my own classes) only this is so much more fun!

This is the best of both worlds in terms of combining a good workout and relaxation. Everything you expect from a great yoga class.

5.0 out of 5 stars AB TOASTER, February 5, 2006
This review is from: Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett (DVD)
Someone with pretty admirable abs recommended this one to me. It so happened I was already aquainted with Ana Brett's & Ravi Singhs DVD's but had never heard of Navel Power. If you are looking for a different direction, I highly recommend it. It is quite different from "regular" yoga or "regular" abs work. It really toasts my abs though, and I find it much more enjoyable than other ab workouts!

75 minutes of corework, breath, spine work. Or, 2- 35 minute workouts. Fabulous! You will find this one gets harder the more you do it. Place your hand on your abs while you work to be sure they are scooping inwards. You will feel a pleasant burn the next day which will let you know this one works.
I have fallen in love with Ana & Ravi and plan to try everything they have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Navel Power is an awesome Yoga workout, February 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett (DVD)
I have never reviewed a DVD before but after reading the review's posted here I had to write. First, I own the Navel Power DVD. I had the original one on VHS and was pleased to find the new DVD even better. This is an awesome DVD and this type of yoga is an amazing practice. I agree with the reviewer who wanted to give it 10 stars.
I think however that many are missing the point discussing their waistlines and "little indents under the navel." There is so much more going on here that I think it is a shame if people are led to believe they are just getting some "belly blasting" workout.
Kundalini Yoga works deep. The moves combine certain breathwork and there is some usage of mantra and meditation between exercises. This technique is a science which works you physically, energetically, spiritually and emotionally all at once.
Working the navel center helps you access your personal power and strenghtens you in many more ways then just toning up your belly.
That said I think it is wonderful that some of the reviewers got the result they were looking for and it is true as long as you are doing the yoga it does not matter what got you there. Just be on the lookout for the more subtle and sublime changes too.

5.0 out of 5 stars This DVD is right on target, August 1, 2005

This review is from: Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett (DVD)
I have to disagree with the reviewer who did not like the Navel Power DVD. I have a feeling she is just not a yoga person. I personally do not like the type lof 6-pack look that non-yoga ab workouts produce. I like the strong nicely shaped natural abs that yoga workouts like this one produce.
Ana & Ravi's DVD's are consistently good and this one is no exception. This type of yoga will take you out of the familiar yoga you may know. You will recognize some hatha moves, but there is always something added, like special breath techniques and movement. You may be surprized at how cardio these kundalini yoga workouts can be. Cardio and spirtitual at the same time. It is an amazing combo that leaves me buzzing and feeling happy for a couple days every time I do it.
The moves are simple but not necessarily easy if your navel power was weak like mine when I began(after having twins!) I think the breath is what makes these navel exercises so effective. Form is also so important to really make any ab work effective and imitating Ana's form has helped me a lot! I am already seeing some change and have just ordered 4 more for gifts.
Ravis instruction is perfect and poetic and and Ana is grace and strength personified.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Programs, on all levels., July 8, 2005

This review is from: Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett (DVD)
The DVD's are very engaging. I particularly enjoy the cues and encouragements from Ravi, they are unique and intriguing, well spoken. I was delighted that the meditation/chant on Navel Power was the same one we enjoyed in class. The meditation/chant on the Flexibility program is delicious, also. I like the fact that the beat of the background music is related throughout. The visuals are simple and perfect. When I need to check in, there is Ana, in perfect form, perfectly calm. Very helpful in allowing me to return to rhythm or form when I might have veered off. The animated logo is lovely. All around, a first class effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars FEEL THE BURN!!!, June 20, 2006
This review is from: Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett (DVD)
Under Ravi & Ana's inspired guidance this DVD helped me experience a whole new approach to ab work. This is definitely yoga, but a whole new category. In this type of yoga you move and breath and do poses. The way this DVD is constructed, you do two or three exercises which give your abs a burn and then you do two or three which stretches your ab area. Then you're ready for more burn. This is really quite genius. Breath of fire is a power breath and is done with various poses. There is a meditation at the end which is very exciting. I thought meditation was just sitting there thinking of nothing, but this type is actually fun to do. You will thank me if you get this DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars gut solution, May 15, 2008
This review is from: Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett (DVD)
I've been doing navel power for a while now and let me tell you it has really helped in so many ways. Besides the visual appeal and lovely music you have a workout that will put you in contact with the belly. You can do tons of crunches and leg lifts, but if you have no connection mentaly to the abdomen you will not achieve satisfying results by doing them. Doing this DVD will help you relax the abdomen, stretch it (thats actually important too) and build strength inside in a non violent way. No compressing the organs and dealing with aches and inflamation later on. You will sure know this is so when you try traditional crunches or leg darts at some other time. Its a long workout, so save some quality time to do it, even if just once a week it will still work for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars One DVD I can stick with, February 23, 2005

Mike R. (Lancaster, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett (DVD)
I actually took Kundalini Yoga in college for a required PE credit. Then I let my yoga lapse for 15 years along with most other physical activity. Curiosity got the best of me though when I saw these DVD's listed, especially Navel Power. I know about the Hara from karate, how it is your power center. As it says in this DVD " Navel Power gives you the ability to sustain intent" which is just what I need since I never seem to be able to stick to anything for long.
I figure it is now or never regarding getting some discipline in my life. It seems to be working since I have been doing this DVD 3X per week for a month and don't see myself stopping. Though I don't weigh myself so can't tell you actual pounds lost, I feel much more comfortable in my clothes. No straining of my waistline in my pants.

This is an intense ab workout but the way it is paced makes it easy to get through.
It artfully combines exercises which contract the abdominal muscles with exercises that elongate them. One thing that you will get with this that you will never find anywhere else is breathing and spiritual content without being hokey.
Thank you Ravi & Ana for getting me back in the groove.
