4.0 out of 5 stars Bright and Beautiful- a good choice., August 24, 2000

This review is from: Navigators Tarot of the Mystic Sea Deck with Book(s) (Cards)
This set of tarot cards is just what I was looking for. They are based on the Golden Dawn's use of the Tarot. The images are not too complicated, yet they project their meanings well, making it easy for beginners. They have people in carnival-acrobat type outfits, some doing acrobatics,as well as symbols in the backgrounds of most cards, along with animals and some depictions of boats and the sea. The people are relatively small in most cards, and drawn simply so as not to be a distraction but a symbol instead. The deck is not so focused on the sea as the title would lead you to believe. The only thing I don't like about them is the fact that they aren't numbered, which makes it just a little harder to flip through the book to find the meanings. But I have looked at a lot of decks that were too kitchy, with fairys and dragons and flowers etc... and I like these the best so far. note- I love dragons but I haven't found a deck with chinese dragons, which I would prefer to celtic dragons. Also, I think that when a tarot artist concentrates on a theme, the cards tend to lack any real symbolism alluding to their meaning. These cards measure 2.8 inches by 4.32 inches. I started out with Crowley's Thoth Tarot, which I use a lot, but they are jam-packed with symbols and measure about 4x6 inches. Sometimes I just like to use something smaller and simpler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cast out upon your inner sea!, November 9, 2004

This review is from: Navigators Tarot of the Mystic Sea Deck with Book(s) (Cards)
This deck is so different in appearance from any other that I can't suggest it for beginners. It is a tarot deck for the experienced and the committed. Rich in both colourful design and symbolism, a person could spend a lifetime meditating upon and reading its intricacies. The "mystic sea" in question is of course that vast inner unknown that we all possess, but seldom bother to explore. This tarot can at least help a person begin the voyage, if you seriously wish to go. Julia Turk has done an amazing job creating this. Oh; and make sure you get her book as well. You won't regret it. Enjoy your journey!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beauty and Truth, January 10, 2007

Julia Turk accomplished with this deck what no one else has since Uncle Al and Lady Harris got together way back when. Ms. Turk has managed to express her deep occult knowledge with Beauty and Grace. Her artwork is not just easy on the eyes, it is playful, sexy, enchanting, inspiring, mesmerizing - and really and truly weird. Even the pips! Each one of these cards is an honest to Gods mastepiece! Now, I am a sucker for pretty Tarot sets, and I am also a sucker for Ceremonial Magick and the Occult. But really - look at those other "occult" decks. You know the ones. They might have all kinds of good symbolism and "flashing colors" and Hebrew letters and all that. But they are butt-ugly, as we used to say back in Indiana.

Be sure to get the book along with the cards - together they will be an invaluable compass as you navigate the Mystic SEA! Seriously.
