Product Description

Navitas Naturals Lucuma Powder is made from whole Peruvian lucuma fruit that has been dried at low temperatures and milled into a fine powder. It is a bonus that this delicious low-glycemic sweetener contains many nutrients including beta-carotene, iron, zinc, vitamin B3, calcium and protein. Lucuma is native to the highlands of Peru where it has been cultivated since ancient times. Today, lucuma is one of the region’s most enjoyed foods, and is a popular ice cream flavor among Europeans and South Americans. Navitas Naturals Lucuma Powder is an alternative sweetener that has an aromatic, sweet fragrance and full-bodied taste reminiscent of maple, which lends itself to a diverse array of applications. Add lucuma to beverages, smoothies, yogurt and cereal, or blend it into desserts and baked goods for a sweet and flavorful nutrition boost.

I bought lucuma when I went to Lima, Peru and thought I could never get it anywhere fresh but there. Until I gave Navitas Naturals a shot. The price was reasonable, and I love to put a spoonful in my smoothies. This stuff could have come right from where I used to get it because it is the same and is so fresh. Try lucuma ice cream if you have an ice cream maker, or put it in your smoothies like me. If you like lucuma, Navitas is a good brand to get it.

This is the only Lucuma I have ever tasted in my whole life before so I can't compare it to a different product. However it's hard to imagine that Lucuma could be more delightful and delicious than this! I have mixed it into raw chocolates with coconut butter, cacao butter and cacao powder. I have made a smoothie with bananas, hemp seeds, and vanilla. I also mixed it into a strawberry pudding with chia seeds and raw honey. Yum!

Results of the trial determined that lucuma significantly increased wound closure and promoted tissue regeneration. The report of the study concluded that lucuma may have anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and skin-repair effects on human skin.

Usage

Lucuma fruit powder has a distinctively sweet and fragrant taste that provides a natural sweetening to desserts without increasing your blood sugar levels, unlike many sweeteners that offer empty calories. I was disappointed. I thought this would be a nice sweetener. It's not. It's sort of bitter really. It's a powder and I didn't find it that easy to dissolve. I'm using it in baking recipes. If you are thinking of using this as a sweetener, think again. Not crazy about it really.

I ordered it for it's nutritional value and it certainly does live up to it's claim for energy.
I would recommend it to my friends.

I use this as a substitute for powdered milk in my chocolate recipes. It adds a creamy texture and a lighter flavor. I love it

I am a bit put off with Navitas at this point. For one, they do not have a way in which you can send feedback to them, unlike their smaller competitors. This is not even an option on Amazon. Once customer service drops to this level, I am disenchanted and no longer like to support such companies. The main reason for one star is because I found a bunch of thriving bugs in my lucuma powder. I am an avid blendtech shake maker and have about 10 air-tight jars with my staple ingredients on my kitchen counter. One of these staples is lucuma powder. I noticed that there were a bunch of little bugs making their way through the powder. At first glance I thought my eyes were deceiving me and then I thought they may be ants. However, they were smaller and quicker than ants and they were found throughout my lucuma stash (which was a lot - two packs). My guess is that there were eggs in my initial batch, right out of the bag. I meticulously clean my air-tight canisters and they are never left open, etc. The only way for bugs to have made their way into this container is from the original source, the Navitas bag of lucuma. I didn't want to blast Navitas in public, hoping to give them the first go at a response to my issue with them, but since there is no way to contact them (via Amazon), I am leaving it here for all to consider. I have used many other lucuma brands over the years (including Navitas) and have never had this issue. I am curious to see if others have run into this.
