USN Aircraft for Younger Readers!, August 30, 2009
This review is from: Navy Combat Aircraft and Pilots (Aircraft (Enslow)) (Library Binding)
Part of the AIRCRAFT series of books aimed at readers 9-12, NAVY COMBAT AIRCRAFT AND PILOTS is an informative, well-illustrated survey of USN aircraft circa 2002 that should appeal to junior birdmen.
Author Henry Holden packs a lot of material in the book's 48 pages. He supplies information and pix on the F-14 Tomcat and the creation of Topgun, sub-hunters such as the P-3C, life on board a USN carrier, flying with the Blues, aircraft in the Navy's inventory in the early 2000s, etc.
The book is clearly intended for junior birdmen who know the difference between an F-14, an E-2C and a TC-130. Readers with a general interest in aviation might like it as well.
In any case, NAVY COMBAT AIRCRAFT AND PILOTS is a good, brief intro to Naval aviation. In Navy parlance, it rates an "OK-3 Wire."
