An evocative tale -- Highly recommended,
By
This review is from: Navy Seal Dad (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
Two years had not erased the memory of Rachel Grant. Now injured and forced to take time off, Lieutenant Commander Pete "Mac" McKenna returns to the city of New Orleans where he once shared snow cones and passion with Rachel. He does not know they also shares another profound connection.Rachel never thought Mac would return. Four weeks of love had radically changed her life, and when he left, Mac took part of her with him. But he also left her pregnant, and it was the pregnancy that made his loss bearable. Mac has already chosen life as a Navy SEAL over her once, and Rachel does not intend to a repetition of history. She also cannot deny him the opportunity to be a father. Once again author Metsy Hingle pens an emotional, evocative tale in NAVY SEAL DAD. Her love for military heroes makes this tale sparkle with its wounded hero and his confrontation with choices of the heart. Rachel Grant is a likewise striking character with her respect for Mac's need to be a SEAL and willingness to face the challenges that presents for her and her son, even when Mac decides to walk away from the career he loves. Secondary characters sparkle, especially the irrepressible roommate with the fantastic matchmaking skills and a heart of gold A delightful, thought provoking read, NAVY SEAL DAD comes highly recommended.

Lieutenant Commander Pete 'Mac' McKenna's life revolved around being a Navy SEAL. He refused to allow himself to enter into a permanent relationship because he could not put someone he loved through the grief and anxiety that came with loving a SEAL. When a mission resulted in him being wounded, he reluctantly accepted the fact his injuries would probably force him to resign from the Navy. Knowing his career was not going to be a future issue, he sought to rekindle the relationship he left two years prior with Rachel Grant. Would he be able to convince her that their love deserved a second chance?Nurse Rachel Grant heart was broken two years ago when Mac McKenna, the man who held her heart and soul, coldly selected his career over the love she freely offered him. She never revealed to him he had left a lasting reminder -- she had his son. Unexpectedly Mac returned . . . and declared that he wanted her back in his life. Could she risk sacrificing her heart to once again bleed for him? Reading Metsy Hingle's NAVY SEAL DAD was a surefire way to start the New Year off with a bang. Ms. Hingle ingeniously set the stage as she presents memorable dialogue, heartfelt characters, and secondary characters that beg to be revisited in future novels.

Part of the Bachelors & Babies series.Wonderful characters with Lieutenant Commander Pete "Mac" Mckenna and the lady he left behind Rachel Grant. His son, P.J., Peter James, whom he has not met and Rachel's friend, Chloe, a firey, fiesty, artsy person who is in love with Rachel's boyfriend. Don't pass this up and you will enjoy all the time it takes to read it. Recommended with a --M.

Not much to admire about this SEAL,

Two years ago Mac, a Navy SEAL, took Rachel's virginity and they spent four weeks together. Then Mac dumped her and never looked back. It's hard to believe a Navy SEAL would be so irresponsible and/or not realize birth control doesn't always work. He knew he had devastated Rachel but cared so little that he didn't bother to try to contact her to see if she was OK. If he had, he would have known about PJ. When Mac comes back to New Orleans to see a renowned surgeon (not to see Rachel) he looks her up while he's there. Since he wouldn't have come to NOLA except for the surgeon, its unlikely Rachel would have ever heard from him again & she is naturally suspicious of his motives. When Mac finds out they have a son he decides they should get married and runs out and buys a ring. He is so self involved that he feels she'll jump at the chance to marry him. This is after he finds out about PJ, not before. Again, if it wasn't for PJ it would be unlikely Mac would have wanted to marry Rachel since he didn't even want to be with her two years ago. His reasons for getting married are that they care about each other (I care about Global Warming), the sex is good (what happens when the desire is not as frantic) and they have a child. Getting married to provide two parents is one of the worst possible reasons. Eventually one or both of the parents will become bitter and resentful, perhaps find someone else who they really love, and the child will suffer the most. Usually be the end of the book the male lead redeems himself. This was an exception. Mac had no valid reason for what he'd done and he treated Rachel with little respect and honor. I liked Rachel, Chloe and PJ. But Mac needed to grow up. |
