Navy SEALs are a top antiterrorist unit that goes anywhere (SEa, Air, or Land) to fight for and protect the American Way of Life. When a SEAL team rescues American hostages in the Middle East, they discover the terrorists have a warehouse of deadly Stinger missles. Rather than risking his entire team, Lt. Curran (Michael Biehn) orders his men to leave without destroying the Stingers. But when civilian aircraft start getting shot down--and when one of Curran's men is killed by terrorists--the SEALs make it their personal business to track down and destroy the deadly missles--and the fanatics who want to use them. Made in the Top Gun mold, Navy SEALS features stock characters (including Charlie Sheen's loose cannon) and at times seems like a recruiting film for the SEAL program. But the action sequences are well done (especially the final battle in war-torn Beirut) and the special effects and cinematography are first-rate. There's also a certain gung-ho, testosterone-driven, adrenaline-junky sensibility that seems appropriate to the sort of impossible missions SEALs are asked to do. It's a good time, as long as you don't take it too seriously. --Geof Miller

Product Description

They're America's ultimate weapon. Charlie Sheen (Platoon), Michael Biehn (The Terminator) and Bill Paxton (Twister) team up as three of America's finest Navy commandos in this pulse-pounding adventure that brings out the heavy artillery for explosive action and breathtaking suspense "that will leave you clenching your teeth" (The Washington Post)! The Navy's elite SEAL (SEa, Air and Land) squad is made up of the best of the best: supreme warriors who take on dangerous missions no other fighting force would dare attempt. Sent to rescue the crew of a U.S. aircraft held hostage by mideast terrorists, the SEALs know that their skills will be put to the test. But when they discover that the terrorists have seized the plane's arsenal of deadly Stinger missiles, they're thrust onto the frontlines of the battle of a lifetime.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good film November 6, 2010
By LoBo
Format:Blu-ray
I really liked it. I liked the first action scene to the team best. I think the story was good. I believe i saw parts or the whole film
many years ago on tv. I didn`t expect it to be so good, so i was suprised. I like this kind of film.

Picture Quality: 4/5

I think it looked good. I see it has
has only a MPEG-2 encode on a 25 GB disc, but i still think it`s good.

Yes, it would have looked better using a encode like MPEG-4 and 50 GB disc, but i don`t expect them to use
that and re-release it again. I think the colours and details looks pretty sharp and detailed. It was good
enough for me.

Audio Quality: 4/5

I think the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 had mixed results. I think the first action scene in the film, where they use
those MP5`s(i believe), sounded best. The gunfire effects had good bass. In the end shootout where they used
AK-47`s, i think the gunfire effects lacked bass. They should had more bass. The explosions coming out of my
subwoofer in this film, impressed me. The music and dialog was good coming from the Center speaker.

The Surround speakers was used for some music and of course used in the action scenes. I heard bullets and
emptied shells, and such in the surround speakers. That Sniper rifle that is used perhaps 2 times in this film,
was very impressive. I think it had pretty deep bass. I was very suprised by that. Great.

film: 4.5/5
Overall: 4/5

I love the movie, but readily admit there are parts that could most definitely use some serious improvement. It does, however, have lots of action, emotional moments, and even comedic relief throughout; making it fun to watch no matter what mood you're in.

I believe the SEALs deserve the utmost respect and was a bit upset that some parts of the movie, a movie bearing their name, didn't seem to do them justice. Though I don't know how your average Navy SEAL feels about the movie itself; they seem to be very pleased with Michael Biehn's (yay!) portrayal as a Navy SEAL. I read an article (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to cite in a review, an internet search should lead you to it though - fan club) that said the SEALs were excited about the prospect of Mr. Biehn being the narrator for the U.S. Navy UDT/SEAL Museum in Florida's new film. The film (I believe, as I haven't had a chance to visit the museum yet) is running continuously, showing the history and evolution of the United States Navy SEALs. Biehn, honored, narrated it for free. The SEALs seem to feel that Michael Biehn's depictions as a SEAL in "Navy SEALs" and "The Rock" were very accurate and well done. This is further evidenced by the fact that after his part in the museum film was completed, he received a special honor from Rear Admiral E.T. Olsen; he was awarded with a plaque and named Honorary Frogman for Life. This is a real honor since the SEALs say that the Admiral has only done this a few times and rarely gives such glowing compliments to anyone.

So, though the movie has it's faults, and what movie doesn't, it's still a good movie. Give it a try and enjoy if for what it is, a movie. If you're a Michael Biehn fan, it's a must see. Also, though Charlie Sheen's portrayal of a SEAL may not, putting it mildly, be the greatest, don't be too harsh a judge; remember, he's just doing the best he can, which is pretty darn good, with the shoddy part he's given.

4.0 out of 5 stars A favorite of mine ! July 19, 2006
Format:DVD
Well some people posted that this is a ridiculous movie because it doesn't show the real side of US Armed Forces, i fully disagree with them, this is an action movie, it is intended to entertain the viwers, in my opinion does that and more! When i saw this movie for the first time i didn't even know anything about the Navy Seals. After watching this movie i considered the Navy Seals the nş1 Special Force arround the world.

For about 120min you will see some awsome action, and you will see a bit of each aspects of a Navy Seal (Sea / Air / Land).

Conclusion:

If you want an exact documentary about the Navy Seals, try and grab a National Geographic DVD, maby you will find something there of value...Otherwise if you want a very very good entertaining action movie this is it !

DVD downsides:

It could have a little bit more of extras... No extras at all!

If it wasn't for that i would give it a full 5 star score!
