I obtained this DVD (through Amazon.com) from an outfit called Disco Viveros. The DVD is made in Mexico and has the original sound track in Spanish (no subtitles) thus fluency in Spanish is a must. Transfer of the movie to DVD is visually excellent; it does justice to the expressionistic cinematography of Gabriel Figueroa. The sound is fine although there is a little extraneous noise in some scenes. Delivery by Disco Viveros was lightning fast and the pricing very reasonable.

Nazarin is one of the best of Buñuel's Mexican movies. Although maybe not at the level of his later work (El Ángel Exterminador, Viridiana, La Voie Lactée, Tristana...) is a moving piece of work excellently acted by the Spanish actor Francisco Rabal and a good supporting cast.

I obtained in the same way another two of Buñuel's Mexican movies, Los Olvidados and Ensayo de un Crimen. The technical specifications are the same (no subtitles) and the transfer to DVD is of good, if not outstanding quality (a little less so for Los Olvidados). These two movies (as well as Nazarin) are must-watch. Besides their intrinsic quality they are essential pieces in the Buñuel puzzle; it is fascinating to discover themes that reappear in some of his later masterpieces.
