5.0 out of 5 stars Review, April 4, 2003
By
Sam Bowden "Sam Bowden" (Cos Cob, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nc17 (Audio CD)
Originally called nc-17, Treble Charger was forced to change its name after legal hassles with a US-based band of the same name. They eventually adopted nc-17 as the title of their first release. As is the case with most young indie artists, Treble Charger pays overt tribute to their influences on this disc. The opening track, "10th Grade Love," with its discordant guitars and Greig Nori's nasal vocal delivery, borrows heavily from the Dinosaur Jr. songbook, while the ballad-y "Red" may just be the finest song Neil Young never wrote. Other tracks such as "Popcorn Chicken" and "Cubicle" recall the feedback-drenched, drone-rock innovations of Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine. Though Treble Charger never quite rises above the level of imitation on nc-17, the band does manage to produce a few of its own minor gems in the process. ~ Robert Kaups, All Music Guide

5.0 out of 5 stars American Psycho is right, October 16, 2000
By
"sticksthechickenking" (Hunt, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nc17 (Audio CD)
I heard the song american psycho and just had to get this CD. Treble Charger is like one of the best punk bands. They have this greatsound to them that most punk bands lack. They have been compared to Blink but they are so much better than blink. They have an awesome vido and even cooler name. So if you like Sum-41 or Green Day you will love treble Charger

4.0 out of 5 stars Real Pleasing!, October 15, 2005
By
Motor Control (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nc17 (Audio CD)
These songs are so hard to explain! Oh well... This review is based on my taste. The volume for this cd is low but the quality isn't bad. Some vocals aren't clear like on Cubicle.

1. 4/5 10th Grade Love - Sad nostalgia. Has to really grow on you.
2. 5/5 In Your Way - Very nice warming slow song with a splendid ending.
3. 2/5 Trinity Bellwoods - It's not soothing as the title seems.
4. 3/5 Dress - It's okay but Bill's other songs are better.
5. 5/5 Cubicle - The drone sounding verses is really sweet.
6. 0/5 Popcorn Chicken - It's meaningless guitar noise. I have no idea why its titled that.
7. 3/5 Red - This one is more happier than the MIM version but is longer, about 5 minutes. I'm just not a fan of Red.
8. 4/5 Soaker - Very nice melody for the verses.
9. 5/5 Deception Made Simple - Not so indie sounding. The chorus is very nice.
10. 5/5 Pilot Light - The instrumental and singing is soothing for this ballad.
11. 3/5 Hint - The guitar thing is wack.
