5.0 out of 5 stars Great under $200 hunting tool, October 29, 2009
This review is from: NcSTAR® Laser Rangefinder (Misc.)
The NLB800 is well worth the sub-$200 price. You get a shirt pocket sized range finder with a 6X lens capable of accurate measurements using a solid support. Although the NcStar unit does not have angle compensation, I find that the vast majority of antelope, deer, and turkey hunting situations don't call for range adjustments for sharp up/down angles. Granted, if you hunt VERY steep terrain on a consistent basis, then a more expensive unit may be called-for. Using heights varying from 4-15 yards above targets placed 10-200 yards out, I find the error to be 3 yards and less. As the range increases, the error decreases. Subtracting the +/-1 yard laser error places the accuracy tolerance ample for today's faster bows. I highly recommend this unit for anyone interested in improving their ranging estimates (bow or gun) and wish not to spend $300+ for the luxury. TIP: You will get much better results if you support your range finder on a rest (Just like shooting a gun). If you hunt forested locations, range trees as high up the trunk you are able. Doing so will give you VERY accurate measures.
