Dance, relax, then dance again. This is a fabulous artist!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ndangariro (Audio CD)
I own this album and recommend it EXTREMELY highly to anyone who loves Afro-Brazilian or African music. Mapfumo creates music that is somehow relaxing and highly danceable at the same time. One of the most wonderful qualities about the music of Mapfumo is how well he uses the collection of unusual African instruments. Each instrument has its own story to tell. A collection of music that is both haunting and captivating.

Re-released as The Long Walk,

This album is available as The Long Walk, at a reasonable price. Great CD. Recorded in 1983, this predates Mapfumos introduction of the mbira into his band. Great swirling chimurenga music.

Not the best Mapfumo album, but ...,

... that's like saying: "Not the best Brandenburg concerto."If you don't own any Thomas Mapfumo albums, select another one for your first (you can't go wrong with "Chimurenga Forever: The Best Of..."). If you DO already own one or more of his albums, all you need to know is that this album is almost as good as the others. |
