A solid starting point to Celine's French-language career,
This review is from: On Ne Change Pas (Audio CD)
Long before Celine Dion became a household name in the U.S., she was already a tremendously successful recording artist in Quebec and France. Her first album, La Voix du Bon Dieu, was released in 1981 at the tender age of 12, and Celine released no fewer than *fourteen* French-language albums between 1981-1990, when her English-language debut Unison was released.
Very little of this early catalog remains in print on CD; there are a handful of early French tracks that are frequently recycled, but some of her better early songs have never been remastered / released to CD. On On ne change pas, Sony has collected Celine's French-language hits spanning her career (1981-2005), including her very first song, Ce N'etait Qu'un Reve, Une Colombe, which Celine performed for the Pope's visit to Montreal in 1984, Eurovision winner Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi, and recent hits like Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore, the powerful duet Sous Le Vent, and L'Amour Existe Encore. Personally, I feel that Celine's best French work was from 1981 to 1988. Oddly, Celine's earliest tracks are on Disc 2 instead of Disc 1. On Ne Change Pas features remastered rarities such as Une Colombe, the delightful Ma Chambre, and Melanie. Celine's earliest LPs are also present, with tracks from La Voix du Bon Dieux, Les Chemins de Ma Maison, and Melanie. Incognito, Celine's first album with Sony and Luc Plamondon instead of Eddy Marnay, takes up a third of the second disc, with songs from the same era like Fais Ce Que Tu Voudras and Ma Chambre rounding out the 1980s. This 2-CD set offers very little for the diehard Celine collector: if you already own all of her recent French albums (D'Eux, 1 Fille & 4 Types, S'Il Suffisait D'Aimer) and early Celine collections, there are few incentives, except for a fairly complete overview of her French career. There are several new tracks: Tous les Secrets, I Believe In You and Je Ne Vous Oublie Pas, but I felt that these paled in comparison with her early gems. This is a good start, but Sony left off plenty of beautiful songs from Celine's earliest albums that have never been released to CD.

Incorrect item description,
This review is from: On Ne Change Pas (Audio CD)
The track listing for this item shows 2 discs, with more than 15 tracks on each disc. However, the item I just received is only 1 disc consisting of 17 tracks. I'm working w/ Amazon to try and resolve it, but if you're looking to purchase this cd, be aware that it is not the same item described.

Celine's magic years,

A good and complete collection of Celine's french songs. All of her hits, plus exclusive rare bonus tracks and new good songs: the first single "Je ne vous oublie pas", as well as "Tous les secrets" and beautiful "I believe in you" with Il Divo.
It's a good album, full of memories of the past golden years, when Dion topped the charts of french speaking countries. To be honest with you, sounds strange to read some of the other reviews, where people blame Celine for having realeased this album instead of a new collection of english songs..for those who think this way, I would like to remember that this is a french Greatest Hits album, and it's been sold in the US too, but it's not a product dedicated to the US....so why you compare it to Falling into you or All the way? It's ridiculous, it's like you compare fish with meat....

We Don't Change...Celine...you're still the best!,

I have known the great wonders of la Celine Dion since I was a little tot listening to the BEAUTY AND THE BEAST SOUNDTRACK. Little did I know as a 5-year old that that voice would be the passion of my life.
It wasn't till the sucess of FALLING INTO YOU that I was officially a Celine Dion fan, I was a fan of the great Barbra Streisand and I finally found out how sensational Celine Dion was. I regret that I didn't see it before, but, one again, I was a youngin'. I discovered Celine's french career while she was on her little hiatus after the release of ALL THE WAY...A DECADE OF SONG. It was an excellent chance to explore the old Celine Dion material, that I would soon learn to love more than her already brilliant English work. So, I took French in high school and wanted to learn the language of these beautiful songs, which was the best decision of my life. I am now on the road to become a french teacher and translator. Celine played a minor role, don't you think? I was wondering when the time would come to release a complete BEST OF of Celine's french work, and 2005 was an excellent time to look back and reflect. Even as a young girl Celine had the voice of an angel, a voice unlike any other. Her old songs are beautiful, the songs of Eddy Marnay were perfect for Celine and they remain some of her best songs today. Nothing is better for a teenager to hear (and adults) songs about coming to age and falling in love. Nothing is better than songs such as "D'amour ou d'amitié" or the classic "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi." My favorite era in Celine's french career is the 1987 INCOGNITO era. For some reason this era makes me the happiest. Nothing compares to the gorgeous song "Lolita (trop jeune pour aimer)" and "Partout je te vois". I absolutely love them. Unfortunately not every single song can't be included on such a collection. I am surprised that the gorgeous "C'est pour toi" or "Comment t'aimer" weren't included on this set. The rest of Celine's career is JUST as fascinating. The DION CHANTE PLAMONDON era is pure genious. The song "Le Blues du Buisnessman" remains one of Celine's best songs (and most understandable for American audiences!)to date. "Ziggy" means a lot to many as well. The D'EUX (or terribly titled "The French Album") era was also genious. Jean-Jacques Goldman is perfect for Celine, so perfect that they got together for another classic S'IL SUFFISAIT D'AIMER. And Celine's last album "1 FILLE & 4 TYPES" is a classic. Totally different from Celine's other work, and the singles from this album are magical. "Contre Nature" is now one if my most favorite Celine songs. And "Et, Je t'aime encore" brings back many memories that we all can relate to. The new songs "Je ne vous oublie pas", "Tous les secrets", and "I Believe In You" are fantastic. They all deserve to be singles, Celine has not lost her touch one bit. Her voice is at it's best. What's in store for Celine? As long as she records, she will be adored by her millions of fans. I stand by Celine all the way, and I look forward to anything she has to offer. If she should retire I would go into hiding, myself, until she came back! (I'm really not that dramatic). I look forward to watching the rest of the story of La belle Celine Dion.

Greatest Hits in French,
By
This review is from: On Ne Change Pas (Audio CD)
Celine Dion; in French or English - doesn't matter; her voice is just as powerful! This is possibly the most gifted female vocalist of all time....the fact that almost all of the songs on these two discs are sang in French should not distract the most devoted of Celine English-speaking/understanding fans. This is a magnificant lady; let's hope that her will to sing and perform will never fade away! In this time of global uncertainty and commotion, a refreshing voice like Celine's is more than welcome... this double CD greatest hits would undoubtedly melt the coldest of hearts! Viva Celine - may your voice never tire!!!...

On Ne Change Pas (We Don't Change)-Perfect title for this great collection!,
By
This review is from: On Ne Change Pas (Audio CD)
And indeed, she doesn't change. CD 1 is French hits from the '90's and early 2000's. CD 2 is some songs from the 90's as well as many of the French songs she recorded throughout the 80's. Listen to the 1st disc and then the 2nd disc, and you'll see that her voice was just as powerful in her later years as it was in her early career. This album will definitely show you a true artist whose talent didn't diminish with age (unlike a lot of other singers out there!). Buy this-even if (like me) you're an American who doesn't understand French a bit. It is a real treat for all Celine Dion fans. (And now that I've listened to this album, I am definitely looking forward to the release of her new French album "D'elles" next week!)

Everyone knows Celine,
By
This review is from: On Ne Change Pas (Audio CD)
I have a problem with people who listen to a CD and then tear it apart. Especially, when it is someone who is as big as Celine Dion. These people have to know her and her style. She has been around forever and everyone has heard at least something that she has sung. So, when you buy or listen to her CD you should know what to expect. They rip her and anyone who happens to sing with her to shreds. I blame them. They should have enough sense to stay away from artists whom them know they won't like. Save us all some time and the aggravation of having to read your inane reviews. Stick to singers you know you will like. I happen to like Celine Dion and her style of singing. I love her songs and enjoy listening to them. Je Crois en toi is one of the prettiest songs I have heard in a long time.
If someone listens to a CD or reads a book, then gives an objective review and points out negative things, that is different. They weren't just cutting someone apart. On the other hand, however, if you can't be objective, then do us all a favor and keep your negative, unhelpful reviews to yourself.

It's a loveable rehashing,
This review is from: On Ne Change Pas (Audio CD)
The reason I gave this 3 stars is based not on the quality of the songs included, but rather on the fact that I already own all of these songs (except the 4 new tracks). S'il Suffisait is still as beautiful as ever. My favourite song by her remains Pour Que Tu M'Aime Encore, and it's included in this album.
It's unfair to denigrate the cd when it was bought with the expectation of it having songs from her previous English releases. The title should indicate to you that it's going to be mainly French songs. These songs are mostly ones done earlier in her career, so of course they have the sounds of her younger self. Also, her songs in French have a French-like quality which is by definition different than her English releases. I find nothing wrong with this. I liked her younger self's songs better than some of the Las Vegas numbers she's putting out these days. Still, this cd is mostly nothing new. And I couldn't help but feel like she was trying to crank money out of those of us who like her music in French. Could she not have released a completely new album in French?

Ju leur dirai,

I find this CD very enjoyable. I love the listen to Je lui dirai and J'irai ou tu iras to put me in a good mood in the morning and s'il suffisail is just beautiful. If you don't like the french music Celine records, you should stick to her english releases.

All Celine Dion songs were lovely. I may not know all the french lyrics that she sang, but Celine sung beautifully and the song chosen for the album was magnificent.
