Flavor Name: Toasted Almond RiceSize: 6.6 Ounce (Pack of 12)
While I still serve Near East rice pilafs as a side dish, I now fix them for a quick and healthy weeknight meal! For most of them, I cook as directed in my small rice cooker (Cuisinart CRC-400 4-Cup Rice Cooker). Five minutes after I hear the water starting its boil, I add a cup of cut-up cooked protein (leftover chicken, turkey, chickpeas, beans, whatever) and a cup or so of chopped veggies (fresh broccoli, carrots, onions, frozen peas). When the rice cooker light tells me the rice is done, so is everything else! (If you use a long-cooking whole grain pilaf, you will want to add these ingredients later in the rice-cooking cycle to avoid over cooking.) I guess you could also mix the meat and veggies in after cooking them separately, if you prefer. This is enough to serve three adults (unless they are really, really hungry.)

I like the Toasted Almond mix so much that I often add nuts myself to the other flavors; the crunch adds interest.

You can find recipes at the Near East website for other ideas.

This is a wonderful alternative to rice. It is easy to make. I use the microwave instructions. I used to buy it in the local grocery stores. But I haven't been able to find it. By chance I found it on Amazon and because there was no shipping cost, it cost the same as I used to spend in the store. I love this and it is healthy and high in fiber. My kids even love it.

I've enjoyed Near East rice pilaf since I was a child and I'm so happy that Amazon offers it at a more affordable price (it means I can eat it more often!). It goes great with poultry and fish--I often eat it just by itself!

The Whole Grain Wheat Pilaf is the last of our regular Near East staple varieties. It is much more interesting than plain brown rice --- another favorite around here --- and a fabulous variation on the carbohydrate theme.

Still, even at Amazon's excellent low price (with super saver shipping) this flavor of rice runs nearly 68% more per ounce than the basmati, wild rice and vegetable medley we've favored of late, to which we add our own spices.

I strongly recommend this Near East product. It's delicious and nutritious and cooks in a hurry. However, after we have consumed the last box now in our cabinet, we won't be getting this item again. It just costs too much.

This has always been good stuff. For some reason I couldn't find it anymore at my local grocers. Of course, after ordering a case from you every store in town started carrying it. That was okay - it was nice having backups as this rice goes with everything!

My family loves this Original Rice Pilaf from Near East and I especially love that it's a simple to prepare alternative to mashed potatoes. Everything you need is in the box except for the tablespoon of butter and the water and it only takes about 25 minutes on the stove.

This pilaf has a subtle flavor that goes beautifully with pretty much anything - steak, chicken, pork chops, seafood. It's also really good on our meatless nights. I would suggest using real butter rather than margarine because it adds a depth of flavor that's very noticeable.

It's easy to "dress up" by adding peas or diced carrots or asparagus or bits of left over steak, chicken or pork or toasted almonds. It's also delicious with a bit of red wine/butter sauce poured over.

Each box has about 3 servings but I always make extra because everyone in my family loves this stuff. We've tried the other flavors of rice pilaf from Near East but we don't like them nearly as much and always come back to the original flavor. And now that I have it on Amazon Subscribe and Save, I never even have to go looking for it anymore!

If you're looking for an alternative to mashed or baked potatoes, try this for a change. Y'all may love it as much as we do.

We make this rice all the time. It has a mild flavor that compliments many other dishes. It takes 25-30 minutes to make, but its really easy to put it all in a sauce pan and let it cook.
