5.0 out of 5 stars What an inspiring story!
This is such a wonderful story that both children and adults will enjoy. The dynamic between the brothers and the family is incredible and each character is so well written that by the end of the story, I was left wanting more. I couldn't put it down and can't wait for the next one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for high schoolers
I bought this for my 10th grade son after reading the other positive reviews. For some reason I thought this book would be good for my wrestler son. However, he read the first couple pages and said- Nope, more like 4th grade, Mom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ready for the Next in the Series!, May 11, 2010
This review is from: Nearfall: Book One - The Adventures of Matt and Mike (Paperback)
I bought this from the author at a wrestling tournament to donate to the local middle school, and read it first to be sure I would like to recommend it. I'm glad I did. The kids and young teens will love this story which is so well written about real-life-type trials and tribulations in family and childhood. Even though others have said it, I must say, I didn't want to put it down.

Be sure to tell the kids to stick with it. The opening is about a fourth grader, the book is not. It is about a family and friends and sports and school and community and so much more. My favorite quote from the book is "..difficulty overcome is confidence earned." It does not paint a rosy picture and it is not a technical book on wrestling. Read it!

This book is a must read for anyone that loves the sport of wrestling. Couldn't put it down, that hasn't happened since I read The Firm.

I'm writing this review to not only compliment the writer, but to refute the asinine review made by a woman who bought the book for her high school son.

He apparently read only the first few pages that sets up the conflict for the younger brother. Had your son continued to read he would have realized the older son takes his brother under his wing, so to speak, and he and others are taught both the sport and life lessons as a result. I'm in my forties and I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I think that the woman who bought the book for her son suggest he read further than two pages. He'll be hooked.

Author did a great job!

I am a father of six, five of whom are girls. The boy would not read, until I got this book for him. I think he's actually read it twice! This is also a great book for anyone interested in wrestling, as it is written by a former college wrestler who knows of what he writes.

WRITTEN BY SON:
I am a 13 year old boy, and the first page of this book had me hooked. I may not be a wrestler, but it showed me situations that happen at my age, and ways to get out of them. This book will just keep you turning the pages, wanting to know what will happen next. Thank you for this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put this book down!, July 6, 2007
This review is from: Nearfall: Book One - The Adventures of Matt and Mike (Paperback)
I am the mother of 3 young boys and I bought this book to give to them. I always try to read the books I buy for them and I usually have to make myself slug through the pages, but I couldn't put this book down. The storyline keeps you wanting to know what happens next and it covers many of the peer pressures of growing up and troubles kids face trying to fit in at school, so I felt like it made my job easier as a parent. It opened the discussion for questions on issues we were just about to cover with our sons. I really liked the way these "growing up" scenarios were resolved and handled. I would recommend this book to any parent for their children. It's really hard to find books for boys and this book my boys loved!

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't wait for the next one......, June 14, 2007
This review is from: Nearfall: Book One - The Adventures of Matt and Mike (Paperback)
I purchased this book as a gift for the son of a friend. It is easy to find great books for teenage girls, but not so easy for boys. I was looking through it prior to wrapping and soon found myself hooked on the story and ended up reading the whole thing. I'm guessing from the title that this is the first of a series, and I hope the next one comes out soon. I enjoyed the characterization and the interesting family interplay. Best of all, the young man who received it thoroughly enjoyed it and has recommended it to his friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highlt recommended, January 4, 2008
This review is from: Nearfall: Book One - The Adventures of Matt and Mike (Paperback)
Awesome book...It is easy to relate to all the characters and we have all known someone like Matt, Mike, Dan, Billy, TJ and even Kimberly during our childhood. Joe Reasbeck does an excellent job sharing their problems and opportunities plus how they all adapt and overcome the challenges of adolescence. My son loved it as well. Great book for any school age boy whether they wrestle or not...Great Book

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!, March 6, 2011
This review is from: Nearfall: Book One - The Adventures of Matt and Mike (Paperback)
As a wrestler myself, I really enjoyed this book. A lot of things that Matt and Mike go through in this book I can relate to. This book also helped motivate me to work harder and keep my grades up. Most of all it helped me over come my challenges. This book is great because it is not only about wrestling, it is about what we experience growing up as a student at school. All the peer pressure we get along the way. It was great to read about how other students resolved their differences and problems. Extremely self motivating. My favorite quote, "difficulty overcome is confidence earned". I can't wait to read the next two books.
