"A Necessary End" - an interesting and intriguing novel,
By
This review is from: A Necessary End (Paperback)
Gerry Mackey, the author of "A Necessary End" is a retired south Florida police officer. I am also a retired cop from south Florida and I found Gerry's writing style to be fresh and very entertaining. He definitely kept my interest throughout the entire book. There are a lot of different twists and turns that take place and Gerry skillfully manages to bring everything together nicely. His characters are believable and anyone who knows how police officers think and act will not be disappointed by Gerry's writing. There was only once during the entire book that I became disappointed, and that was when I reached the end. It was one of those books that I just couldn't put down. At the end of the book Gerry leaves the reader hanging just a little, and I know this was by design and not by accident. I'm sure there will be a sequel and I look forward to reading it too.Gary Jones, Captain (retired) author of: Badge 149 - "Shots Fired!" my book's web site: www.badge149.com

Great Adventure,

This review is from: A Necessary End (Paperback)
I've read both "Seed of Thetis" and "A Necessary End". What a fun adventure. The characters are interesting and make you root for them throughout the book. Katie is every man's fantasy girl. She is the female version of James Bond without the attitude. Beautiful, innocent and not to be messed with. I can't wait until the next book comes out. This is just the start of Katie's career, you know there are many more dangerous adventures looming ahead. Keep working Gerry Mackey, I can't take a flight now until I have a Katie Maguire book to read.

This review is from: A Necessary End (Paperback)
This book is fiction but partly based on the author's experience as a Miami Beach Police Officer. The charactors are fresh and all too real. You will find yourself spell bound wondering if this could actually happen. It could! The life of a police officer is both interesting and exciting. Now imagine your a rookie female asked to go undercover, before you know what's happening the plan falls apart and your on your own. You need to keep your wits and stay alive until your partners and friends can find and help you. Sex & international intregue will rivit you. By the end of the story you will feel as if you are friends with Katie, Marty & the rest of the South Beach Police team.

This book is great reading. The book is intriguing, suspenseful, sexy, humorous and action filled. The author makes this fictional story almost believable. You really get to know the main characters in the book. It is easy reading so you can pick it up at anytime however it is hard to put down.I don't remember the last time that I read a fictional book that I could actually recommend. I am looking forward to reading the sequel book in the future. This book could be recreated into a good movie.

Good debut novel,
By Chris Forman (Hudson Valley, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Necessary End (Paperback)
Any book that starts with, "Where's my hooker?" as a first line has promise. A Necessary End is the debut novel of Gerry Mackay, a former Miami Beach police officer, introducing a blonde bombshell of a character named Katie Maguire. Katie is a twenty-three year old rookie police officer, with a black belt and a cutting sense of humor, recruited for a simple undercover assignment as a teenaged prostitute, hence that interesting opening line. Of course, the assignment goes awry when the CIA gets involved and Katie finds herself halfway around the world making some new friends, and some new enemies along the way. It's hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys. Mackay gives a few interesting plot twists, and turns making the reader wonder what's going to happen next. Through the engaging story, Katie's past is revealed in an interesting parallel story line and the reader comes to not only root for the heroine, but also want more of her. Fortunately, the author leaves a nice little lead-in for the next novel. A Necessary End is a good debut novel and I recommend it. Be careful, you may find Katie Maguire addicting. |
