Off the NinjaTune label, Pest has an amazing electronic sound that can be placed right up there with the other famous NinjaTune rockers (i.e. Amon Tobin, Kid Koala, Coldcut). The songs will bring in an excellent & ingenius loop, and suddenly, without warning, blast the hardest beat you can think of filled with fuzz punches and deep bass. Some tracks will make you bounce the same way Fatboy does (Tracks 01,03). Other tracks sound goofy in the same random flava as Bentley Rhythm Ace(Tracks 07,09). You can tell Pest listens to fellow NinjaTuner Amon Tobin, Tracks 02,04,05,08 attempt at the darker sounds but remain safely under the wing of Big Beat/Funk. Pest is pure genius, this CD is worth triple the amount spent. You'll be pleasantly surprised, TarTar promises.

Pest - Necessary Measures,
This review is from: Necessary Measures (Audio CD)
The fun starts right away on Pest's debut album, NECESSARY MEASURES. "Chicken Spit" displays an indominable sense of eclectic humor. There's a definite "jam band" feel here, even on the stuttering funk of "Duke Kerb Crawler" or the Charlie's Angels/reggae collision of "Jefferson Shuffle." "St. Pest" goes slightly more sedate with some piano and strings, though these are no less processed than elsewhere. "Dr. Umz," on the other hand, mixes a peppy little number with a Morse code underlay, though the MC is not terribly inspiring; "Moody Hoe," with its breaks and flanged horns, is more solid. The deep resonating bass of ukelele plucking of "Relief" end the album, saying, in essence, that even if the songs don't cohere 100%, they're held together by fun.
