Liz Abrams-Morley tells us that "Safety can be a costly illusion" in this wonderful collection of poems that does not rely on safe conclusions. Her poetry searches the tangled terrain of aging and change, and looks to nature as an omniscient partner on the journey. The resulting book is a clear-eyed cartography of loss, both heartbreaking and uplifting. If you love brave poetry, you must have Necessary Turns

Liz Abrams-Morley is a poet of human spirit. I am instantly able to connect with the honest appreciation of the natural world. Liz Abrams-Morley, bravely explores death and transience with an uplifting wisdom and heightened awarness. Necessary Turns is a book I am sure to keep by my bedside to be read and re-read.

Necessary Turns is wonderfully full of life, even as it takes us through the long, painful path out of grief and loss. In a culture often struck dumb by death and dying, Liz Abrams-Morley confronts tragedy with honesty and intelligence. Her poems display remarkable sympathy and touches of humor, rooted in the ebb and flow of the natural world. By turns playful and riveting, her language is consistently warm, rich and surprising. These poems have stayed with me for months, not so much because they bravely contemplate death, but because they speak to life.
