5.0 out of 5 stars Wow., July 12, 2001

As difficult as it is to find this band's music, it's worth twice the effort. The backing synth based rythyms provide a range of sounds, from a dreamy, ethereal quality on the haunting Certamente, to a big full alternative sound with rock sensibilities, as on Bargial(My idea of a perfect pop song),theres a great, best of the 80's,90's Synth pop feel(Depeche mode, New Order, etc)to this music, and to complement perfectly, the vocals are sweetly smooth, reminiscent in some ways of Suzanne Vega. I don't speak Italian, but I almost felt as if I could understand what the songs were about. Just fabulous. I tend to agree with one of the previous reviews, if this band was singing in English, they would be one of the biggest.

By the way if you can find their first album theres some nice things there too, (listen to Gli Angeli).

V.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deserve to be known by a global audience, November 24, 2004
This review is from: Necessita (Audio CD)
I bought this CD as "if you bought x you will like..." and took a chance. I am a 50 year old artist and I play music to my college drawing students and every year I add new CDs to my "playlist". I just put the stuff on (most of it I know they haven't heard before..) and just wait. Sooner or later they start to ask, what is that?? This is their favorite CD this year and mine too. It has a bit of a dark quality and at first I was offput by the slightly "tinny" sound of the first tracks...but the more I listen the more I like it. It is melodic and epic. This is a great group and and great CD. One of my other current favorites is Stan Ridgeways "Snakebite" which I first heard on an SAS playlist on a flight to Denmark. They love that one too! It's sophisicated stuff and works it's way into your brain. You don't need to speak Italian or even be an italophile.... Take a chance on this great fresh music, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Featured on "THE SOPRANOS", May 22, 2004
By A Customer

A great CD and the first song on the CD was featured on the hit HBO series "THE SOPRANOS". The song "CERTAMENTE", was also featured on 'PEPPERS AND EGGS' the compilation 2 CD set featuring music from the "THE SOPRANOS". This version of "Necessita" also has a bonus video track, the video is a very professionally produced music video of track six "Non Mi Basta". The music on this CD really captures that special mood you get when you watch "The Sopranos". HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant pop album. Haunting, melodic, eerily enchanting, July 4, 2000

Saw a video for one of the songs on this album while in Rome last year. Immediately fell in love with the lead singer's piercing, moodily brilliant voice and the track's softly seductive dance beat.

Dragged my friend, Tanya, around every c.d. shop until we found it, and discovered that every track on this their second album is a wonder.

Haunting, melodic, eerily enchanting, this album deserves acclaim and international success. Although it makes me sound imperialistic (British, don't you know) I'm sure if they were singing in English, they would be huge. What radio stations in the UK or America that would give an Italian pop group a chance?

Check this album out. It really is fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars The other two are dead on., May 22, 2001

Certamente is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I have a friend in Italy who provided me a couple of their songs from the first album, notably Lettera, and Orlando. Even in that album (which I have little hope of ever finding in the U.S.) they were phenomenal, the fusion of different music styles with the lead singer's unforgettable voice, and the inherent beauty of the Italian language, five stars.

It's obvious that the Sopranos have generated a substantial U.S. interest in this band. I hope some record company exec reads these reviews and takes the steps to acquire rights and promote this band on this side of the pond. I'd love to see them live. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go learn Italiano :)

4.0 out of 5 stars This Album Gets Better with Every Listening, March 24, 2004

The first track, "Certamente", may be familiar to Sopranos fans as it is featured on one of the soundtrack albums. Although I don't understand Italian (wish I did), I found a certain consistent rhythm and style on most of the songs. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Melodic alternative pop rock and good vocalist - Great!, May 17, 2002

I am not watching "the sopranos" so I never heard of this band before it appeared in my recommendations. The reviews and amazon comments intrigued me, so I took the chance and purchased it.

Their style is not easy to describe. On this album there is electro pop with a lot of guitars and guitar driven pop rock with electro pop touches. Actually it is a little miracle of equilibrium between synthetic and organic sound, mixing electronic beats and loops with acoustic and electronic guitars and a warm voice.

"Certamente" is a beautiful atmospheric ballad. I think it will turn into my summer song 2002 (better late than never). "Reiko" is a mid tempo electro pop song with a nice bass line and acoustic guitar in the chorus. Next is the upbeat and catchy "Bargiatto", another electro sounding song with electric guitars in the background. "Primanotte" is a mid tempo pop-rock song with a heavy guitar background contrasting with the sweet vocals in the verses. The chorus sticks in your head. One of my favourites is the ballad "La vera entità" with violins and pulsing beat. "Non mi basta" is mixing a folk rock chorus, with acoustic guitars, and electronic loops. Another favourite of mine, the ballad "L'amore sfiorato" is following. The voice is sweet, the chorus is ethereal. The guitars of the background blend so well to the electronic environment. You'll sing the chorus of "Nuda", a catchy electro pop song, along in no time. You might as well feel like dancing on that one, as on the title track. "Necessità" is once again more guitar driven, with electronic loops in the background. The album ends on another beautiful trip hop ballad with a guitar chorus: "Calma". Actually it does not really ends there, there is a hidden trip-hop track which deserves you attention.

I enjoyed the mature voice, which manage to sound ethereal on ballads ("Certamente" for example) and more 'rock' on other songs ("Bargiatto"). Italian is a fluid language, so you do not need to understand to appreciate the songs. Compositions are catchy, with a good sense of melody. A nice experience that I recommend warmly.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!, September 19, 2001

Ok, I admit it, i bought the Sopranos soundtrack like every other person but "Certamente" was the song that really stood out for me. After spending about a month trying to track down "Necessita", which led me to every website imaginable, i finally got it a few days ago and it is truly amazing.

It is very refreshing to hear music that is honest. This band has stayed true to its musical roots from the beginning (I located their first album in Italy.)

I implore you to buy this record. It is outstanding in everyway!!

4.0 out of 5 stars pleasantly surprised, October 25, 2002

This review is from: Necessita (Audio CD)
I had heard part of Certamente on an episode of the Sapranos, and was worried that there would only be 1 good song on the cd (however I probably would have bought the whole CD for that song alone). It turns out that several other songs on the cd are just as catchy and beautiful. She has a wonderful voice and the songs are overall very varied. Some have said the music is similar to Depeche Mode but I would say it's much closer to Dido in the vocals, song structure and overall effect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grande, September 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Necessita (Audio CD)
I love the latest Soprano's album "Pepper and Eggs" and there are some great songs on it, but "Certamente" was one of the songs I wanted to listen to over and over. I bought the album not knowing what to expect from the other 9 songs on it. I was not disappointed, because the other songs were just as good. I don't understand most of the words, but the lyrics do not matter because it is the melodies in the songs that you can't get out of your head. You find yourself humming them or reaching for that CD every time you get into your car.
