I'll be honest, the main reason I bought this was because of the cover image; honestly, it just looked so hot, I had to see what it was for myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh my!, April 23, 2008
This review is from: Necratoholic (Yaoi) (Paperback)
I'll be honest, the main reason I bought this was because of the cover image; honestly, it just looked so hot, I had to see what it was for myself.

Boy did this yaoi not disappoint either! Not only is it delicious vampire-on-vampire hunter sex (including love-bites, oh my!), it's got a pretty decent plot line involving a maschoistic vampire with sadistic overtones named Sakuya, who's hell-bent on getting revenge on the man who captured him and made it so the poor vamp can't drink the blood of anyone anymore...or at least that's what he thinks. We soon discover that said vampire hunter, Atsumi, is just what our poor masochist needs and it's quite a playful romp for the both of them from there. How could a relationship in which "I hate you!" is so often meant in an entirely different way than the words are originally defined to be NOT be fun?

The art is great, actually, it's by the same artist who did "Tactics", "Mythical Detective Loki" and "Shinshoku Kiss" (Though she's writing under a different name here) and this has to be a more recent work, because her art is even better than before. It's really an engaging story, I couldn't stop reading once I started and I enjoyed it to the end. I really recommend it for someone who's looking for something where traditional "seme" and "uke" stereotypes and styles just don't apply.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great vampire yaoi, May 3, 2008
This review is from: Necratoholic (Yaoi) (Paperback)
I think like most people I bought this yaoi mainly because of the gorgeous cover and the plot line which promised delicious vampire love. But in addition to that Necratoholic is also full of action and at the same time incredibly funny.

Sakuya is a fearsome, high-ranking vampire lord ... or better was ... until he was ravished by Atsumi, a vampire hunter. Since then he no longer craves blood. But it seems that his loss of appetite is more a matter of heart and he simply want's no other blood than Atumi's.

In addition to the main plot line there are subplots, which are just hilarious: Sakuya and and his manservant Balaur running a S/M love hotel, Atsumi becoming an insurance salesman and trying to sell Sakuya, the vampire, life insurance, ...

This book is an overall enjoyable read and an absolute recommendation. It shouldn't miss in any yaoi collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and cute vampire Yaoi., April 30, 2008
This review is from: Necratoholic (Yaoi) (Paperback)
This vampire Yaoi is one enjoyable read. Fast paced with a nice plot, the characters, both main and supporting, are appealing too. Sakuya the vampire uke is cute. OK he is meant to be scarry as he is after all a vampire lord with noble blood who has been around for a long time. But since bitten and ravished by Atsumi, (a vampire hunter who is borned of a vampire and human rendering him somewhat invincible), Sakuya has somewhat lost his zest for "living". The fact that he now only craves for Atsumi's blood certainly does not help. Of course the main reason is he is just love sick for Atsumi.
Atsumi is equally appealing as we gradually learn of his plight since biting Sakuya.
The plot is amusing too with some whacky scenes as Sakuya and his 2 faithful servants make their living by running a BDSM club/hotel sponsored by another "cool" human character. After all Sakuya is the dominant "BDSM queen" (chuckle). And I appreciate the mangaka's revelation of the 2 vampire servants' background towards the end of the story. Another interesting character appears mid-way in the story, complicating Sakuya's and Atsumi's relationship. He is ofcourse the head of the vampire hunters; does not matter if he is just a kid with brains!
True to a vampire tale, there are plenty of bites, gushing blood and gore but it would have been better if the sex is more explicit. Still the exhilarating storyline and characters makes this soft Yaoi a nice addition to my collection. And I do like this mangaka's lively artwork.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice art, but disappointing story line, October 15, 2008
This review is from: Necratoholic (Yaoi) (Paperback)
Having seen some of the pictures and cover in advance, I was so looking forward to this book appearing in English. Unfortunately, the editorial content did not live up to the art. I expected a thrilling, erotic tale and got a silly storyline in its place. In its defense, though, the art is absolutely gorgeous.

I won't get into how the story goes since there's a definition above, so lets just get onto the review!

To be honest, what truly first caught my attention from this book is the cover. Very yummy, right? Usually when a book has such great artwork on the cover, the inside art is only so-so. Let me tell you, it's good! The art is really well done compared to others I've seen. (I must admit it's not -as good- as the cover though).
The smex scenes (for those who truly enjoy those like myself) are well done! Very smexy. Especially if you enjoy a little bloodsucking in the action~
There is one thing that left me disappointed: You want to know what happens! Well, you know what happens, but you want to know if it ever ends or how the next chapter in these two characters lives continue. (Or two other characters you'll come to love). So I really suggest this books for lovers of yaoi and vampires!

And I have to say that the book is a decent read, but nothing to search for. The story is very fast in it's delivery, only covering the parts that are important to move things along. However, when the confusing bits come together in the seme's confession it really is a sweet little story.

If you know someone that already has this one i would say just borrow it from them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sooooo good., July 21, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Necratoholic (Yaoi) (Paperback)
Such a good book. If you're looking for a romantic, bloody, passionate, sex filled yaoi manga, this is it! <3 X3 I was sooooo pleased. All the great things you expect with vampires is in this book. Lots of yaoi. Endearing characters, emo at times but not overly so, and so sweet. It'll keep you reading straight through, I couldn't put it down. Not overly explicit, but definitely enough to satiate us real yaoi lovers. ;P I suggest it for all fans of yaoi and vamps. The artwork and storyline are to die for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It., February 3, 2009

This review is from: Necratoholic (Yaoi) (Paperback)
The cover for this yaoi manga is what caught my attention. I have read quite a number of yaoi mangas and this one piqued my interest greatly. It certainly wasn't a disappointment. I originally read a brief summary of the book online and later decided to pick up the actual manga to read. The storyline was cute and I thought the way the manga started out was a great way to grab the reader's attention. The art was great as well; I quite like this mangaka.
( I think I may have a fetish with weird relationships. Maybe? Vampires... I like the fangs. )

I recommend this for any yaoi readers who haven't picked it up yet. ^^

2.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't get into it., June 20, 2008
This review is from: Necratoholic (Yaoi) (Paperback)
Perhaps because it's Korean and their story telling style has always confused me, (Nothing against the Koreans; their art is BEAUTIFUL) but this one has been played up so far in the reviews and I just don't think it's that good. There were no sex scenes to speak of, so just to warn you if you are like me and are trolling the Amazon for boy on boy action...(No shame in that!^_^) you will be disappointed. And the plot was so jumbled that I just couldn't get into it. I kept waiting for something to happen that made sense. It never did.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average, September 22, 2009
By
This review is from: Necratoholic (Yaoi) (Paperback)
I have to admit, I bought this because of the very pretty cover art (You would have thought I'd have learned my lesson after reading Seven, but no....). While the art is lovely, the story and characters fall flat. Sakuya is the *most* irritating, whiney and ridiculous vampire I've ever read, in any genre. I wanted to smack him more than I wanted him to find his happily ever after, which is not a good sign when reading a romance novel! Atsumi seemed very inconsistent to me - I simply couldn't make sense of why he did the things he did, and it made my reading experience quite frustrating. (While the two main characters were somewhat unappealing to me, I do have to say that the secondary characters sparkled, especially in the final chapters.) The plot meandered along up until the very final pages, at which point the author threw in a huge curveball, which was fascinating (though not given the detail it should have). I kind of wish the author had started the story from the final chapter and gone on from there, and not given us the ridiculous and silly story she did.

Overall, this is a very average yaoi with better than average artwork. If you're into the genre, it's probably worth a read; however, I know for myself that it won't end up on my 'keeper' shelf.
