Before l start l would please ask people to stop comparing Anne Rice and Brian Lumely, the only thing these books have in common with each other is the idea of Vampires and even then there ideas differ greatly. 3.0 out of 5 stars Lumley Return's To Excite The Great Majority!
Brian Lumley has brought us a new Necroscope for a New Century!

Fans of his all know about Harry Keogh and the amazing, but terrible powers he had. Not to mention how exciting his adventures were.

Now Lumley is revisiting the Wamphyri threat with both new and old characters. Invaders is book one in his new three book trilogy.

The novel has some excellent action...

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Good, February 3, 2000
This review is from: Necroscope: Invaders (Necroscope: E-Branch Trilogy) (Hardcover)
Before l start l would please ask people to stop comparing Anne Rice and Brian Lumely, the only thing these books have in common with each other is the idea of Vampires and even then there ideas differ greatly. If you take the romantic view of vampires then stick with Anne Rice, however if you want blood, guts and the pure evil which is the Wamphyri then Brian is the man for you. In Invaders Brian Lumley does it again, l loved all of the Necroscope Series and was happy to see that his flair for taking you into the book so that you feel part of the story has not left him. I had to say l was curious as to how he would bring back the necroscope and was surprised not to see Nathan make an apperance but someone completly new. This new Necroscope is good but has nothing on Harry or Nathan.....yet. Jake is a bit to weak a character for me, he does not have that cold indiference that l have come to expect from the Necroscope, l hope this changes in the next two books. Again, like in many of Lumleys other books the star's of the show are the Vampires themseleves, however we have only had an appereance from one of them so far, can not wait to see what Lumley does with the other two. The highlight of this book for me is E-Branch themselves. Many of the characters we already know well and is good to read about how they are doing and how far E-Branch have come. This is a very well written book and is a must read for all who are of a morbid frame of mind. Brilliant!

The novel has some excellent action in it and the standard amazing Lumley creations. The only problem I saw in it is that it felt very incomplete (obviously since this is a trilogy I suppose), but it would have been nice if this could have stood more on it own other than it did. I came away with a feeling that I had only read a 'set-up' novel for the books to come.

Still, it's Lumley! It's Necroscope! It's here!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hurrah! Another Necroscope book!, August 15, 2000
By
This review is from: Necroscope: Invaders (Necroscope: E-Branch Trilogy) (Hardcover)
I was delighted to read Lumley's newest addition to the fantasy/horror Necroscope world started with Harry Keogh! I was initially suspicious of a Necroscope book without Harry but Jake and both the new and old characters were intriguing. Having read all of Lumley's books, I always liked the original Necroscope books for their depth and detail. . .something I found lacking somewhat in Necroscope: Invaders. . .like not fully fleshed out (no pun intended). However, I did just order the next in the series because no true Necroscope Lumley fan can ever resist that next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lumley gets back to basics with the infamous E-Branch gang!, December 17, 1999
This review is from: Necroscope: Invaders (Necroscope: E-Branch Trilogy) (Hardcover)
Brian Lumley continues his phenomenally imaginative Necroscope series in "Invaders", the 11th of a projected 13-book series. This time we're back on Earth as a NEW trio of Wamphyri (2 lords and a lady) try to implement a fiendish (and TOP-SECRET) plan to subjugate an unsuspecting, and seemingly DEFENSELESS, planet. SEEMINGLY defenseless, because they aren't counting on Lumley's E-Branch catching on to their plan. I've always been a big fan of the E-Branch characters, and I'm thrilled that they're being given a chance to shine in their own right. When I read about Ben, and Ian, and Zek and David, etc., I feel like I'm catching up with old friends. Less successful, in my opinion, was the NEW Necroscope- Jake Cutter. He was just as much of a cypher as Harry Keogh was; More of a way to move the story along than a character. The Vampires are the REAL movers and shakers here... The TRUE measure of Lumley's success with this book, indeed with the Necroscope series as a whole, is this- When I read the last chapters of the book, I was GENUINELY CONCERNED about the fates of the various characters. And that pretty much says it all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lumley's Invaders Doesn't Measure Up, July 27, 1999
By
This review is from: Necroscope: Invaders (Necroscope: E-Branch Trilogy) (Hardcover)
While Invaders is a decent read, it's nowhere near the level of previous Necroscope novels. Invaders is more of an introduction to the E-Branch books than a full-fledged novel. Lumley spends over 70 pages relating the vampires' backstories which, while interesting, is in the past and contains no drama or action. As one reviewer mentioned, the vampires' abilities are very familiar.

There was very little actual vampire action in the book. The bulk of it deals with E-Branch preparing to engage the vampires and the new protagonist's indoctrination into E-Branch.

There is a moderate use of obscenity.

5.0 out of 5 stars ENTIRE NECROSCOPE SERIES, January 11, 2000
This review is from: Necroscope: Invaders (Necroscope: E-Branch Trilogy) (Hardcover)
SOMEONE KEEPS TRYING TO COMPARE BRIAN LUMLEY TO THIS"ANNE" SOMEBODY OR OTHER I SAY LET LADY KAREN LOOSE ON HER WHOEVER SHE IS. ANYWAY THE NECROSCOPE SERIES FAR OUT SHINES ANYTHING THAT I'VE READ ON VAMPIRES LUMLEY'S PEN/CAMERA PAINTS SUCH VIVID WORD CINEMA THAT AT TIMES WHEN I EXPLAIN A SCENE FROM ONE OF HIS BOOKS I OFTEN REFER TO THEM AS IF I HAD SEEN THEM ON THE BIG SCREEN....HINT! HINT! SO BUY IT READ IT LOVE IT NUFF SAID

I felt the book did not equal the quality that the seller stated. I informed the seller of my feelings about the book and they promptly refunded my purchase price. The book was a 2 star, but the seller is 5 star.

I think that this book is good as relative to the series. I started thinking about series of books and the average consumer. Maybe it is dragging on a little far. I really enjoy vampire books and good heroes. This book has both these qualities. If you wanted to start with this book DON'T!! Start at book #1: Necroscope.
