5.0 out of 5 stars Deep, Heavy, Satisfying.
This fifth installment of the Necroscope series tackles the world of protagonist Harry Keogh in a much broader scope than ever before. I consider the previous volume, Deadspeak, as a warmup to this fine work of fiction. True to his Lovecraftian roots, Lumley challenges the reader to delve into areas of knowledge that defy men's minds to comprehend.

As the Necroscope...

I really like this series but I felt like the final book left me wanting a real ending. Overall I can't say I really disliked this book because I really did enjoy it even if is was a slower paced book. I honestly just didn't like the ending and wish it would have been done differently. Anyway. Worth reading but I was disappointed with the ending.

As the Necroscope battles foes both human and inhuman, his struggles remain primarily internal. Striving to find deeper meaning in the world around him, Harry seeks the true nature of the mysterious Mobius Continuum that has served him to well over the years. He learns new and terrible powers that blur the line between life and death itself!

Heartbreaking events abound in this conclusion to the original Necroscope 5-part series. Harry is saddened to learn that it was not his Necroscopic abilities that made him unique, but rather his innocence. For there are others possessed of the same awesome powers, but not so kind of heart! We also learn the fate of the Dweller, aka Harry Jr., and Victor Luchov, the Projekt Director of Perchorsk.

Lastly, in an epilogue reminiscent of Stephen King's masterful The Stand, we (along with Harry) gain insight into the nature of Evil itself, as well as a glimpse back to the paradoxical genesis of the Wamphyri themselves!

5.0 out of 5 stars Harry's only alternative, another world, June 15, 1998

This threw me for a loop. After reading the preceding books, I thought Harry's life couldn't get any worse, it did (Read the lost years to find out more, Poor Harry). The return of Shaitan and Shaitas was a great way to give Harry and his group a hard time and new problems. This final book in the Necroscope series before the Lost Years sets up the hero of this five book rampage to a thrilling ending. I'm still in aw after what I read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harry Keogh's only chance now lies in another universe, April 12, 1998
As the Necroscope, Harry Keogh has the unique ability to speak with the dead. But now that he has become infected with vampirism, the dead shun him as they do all vampires. Most of his former friends at E-branch (short for ESPionage), sensing a change in Harry, regard him with suspicion. Nonetheless, he finds himself helping to track a bizarre killer, a sadist who tortures his victims not only before murdering them but, with his necromantic powers, even after they have died.

Harry knows that with the change in his nature E-branch will give him no peace in this world; he ultimately must retreat to the universe where vampires -- the Wamphyri -- originated. There he discovers a new romantic interest, the one Wamphyri Lady remaining in their traditional stronghold. The few other Wamphyri survivors of the war described in NECROSCOPE III: THE SOURCE have fled to the arctic wastes of their world. Wamphyri Lords Shaitan and Shaithis, however, are planning a comeback -- and Harry does not have resources to fight them as he has before.

DEADSPAWN has the densely plotted suspense and spy/counterspy tactics of previous Necroscope novels, and just when you think there can't be one more twist -- there is! Time comes full circle in a thought-provoking finale that makes Harry a figure of cosmological significance, at once an end and beginning to the world of Lumley's Wamphyri.

5.0 out of 5 stars serious vampires, December 28, 2011

This is what Vampires are all about... none of that Ann Rice or Stephenie Meyer feminine vampire nonsense. These characters are so realistic they'll make the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

5.0 out of 5 stars DEADSPAWN!, March 1, 2000
I loved this book! Harry Keogh, the wonderful character that you come to know and love through the miraculous series of books, takes on a whole new definition of "different." I find Lumley's vampires facinating; they're not the typical vampires, that's a given. If you're tired of Anne Rice and her pitiful, innocent vampires, check this one out! A masterful conclusion!
