profound!,
By Zen (sherman oaks, ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Nectar of Immortality: Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Discourses on the Eternal (Paperback)
As usual Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj's words are powerful and profound. This book is a great compliment to I AM THAT.
What we have here is Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj giving very direct discources on apperceiving yourself as the Unborn. In this series of Q & A's Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj continually dismantles the concepts of the seekers and brings us back over and over to pointing us to our True Nature. The talks are very focused and direct. Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj's methodical approach is designed to help you question and discard all the false ideas you have carried around about your mistaken identity and instead seeing your Self beyond body/mind identification. The talks are made to make you question, inquire and go a step beyond even spritual practices. This is a great book for those that are interested in cracking the shell of the false and peering into the Infinite and going past being a "seeker" learning yet more spiritual practices etc., etc., etc. These teachings are very direct pointers into Self-Knowledge of the Absolute reality and understanding what you really are and what was the state you were in prior to consciousness. These are amongst some of the most concise and direct teachings I've come across in print. "There is no birth, there is no death, there is no person, it is all just a concept, an illusion!" Good supplemental material,

This review is from: The Nectar of Immortality: Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Discourses on the Eternal (Paperback)
This is good supplemental reading to the main core of Maharaj's way of illumination, which is very well presented in "I Am That". There are several instances where the core is expanded on in new ways that further the understanding of the material.

Everybody, sometime in his/her life, has a turning point. One of the multiple ways to choose is having pschicoterapy, or looking for a ready formulae, such as religions or stablished ways of thinking.
Nisargadatta can give you a new experience on looking answers inside. Barely using technical words, sharp as a razor blade, as clear as possible, sometimes even funny, Nisargadatta can bring you to
a totaly new self-experience. The very question, the only one that really can change our whole life, "Who am I?" is found all over the book, but no explicited. Words do not explain, indicates only.
The most important is the EXPERIENCE: YOUR EXPERIENCE.
This is not a book to be read in a week or a mounth. You'll have the chance to tasted it all your lifetime. You'll see how you will can change your points of view in family life
, business, social relationships, everywhere.
Read it, tasted it, discover your real self making the reading you own experience of finding your real self, the ultimate YOU.

Straight to the Absolute,

This review is from: The Nectar of Immortality: Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj Discourses on the Eternal (Paperback)
The amazing Maharaj does not hesitate to go straight to the point, the Absolute. His words elucidates you in the Absolute experience and does not hesitate on reviewing anything else other than attaining this state. I simply loved reading this book. I have read it for the second time and yet it seizes to amaze me ever more. His profound subliminal messages carry important meanings which are not hard to comprehend at all. A great sequel to I Am That.

Perfect addition to I Am That,

This review is from: Nectar of Immortality: Sri Nisargadatta Maharajs Discourses on the Eternal (Hardcover)
I have read I Am That, and I am Unborn (which is poorly translated, although readable). This one is very good, the translation is on par to I Am That. Although I would not recommend it to someone who has not fully read I Am That. It may be best to read them in order, but don't let that stop you from picking this up. It's hard to find, I found an e-book of it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
"You imagine you will increase your value by acquisition. It is like gold imagining that an addition of copper will benefit it." - I Am That Chronologically the order the books go (that are still in print) are: I Am That, The Ultimate Medicine, Seeds of Consciousness, I Am Unborn (free e-book, poorly edited though), Prior to Consciousness, Consciousness and the Absolute. There are a few others that are out of print and cost way too much, they include: Gleanings from Nisargadatta, The Experience of Nothingness, The Nectar at the Lord's Feet. These three are way over priced and I'd recommend against them. The only out of print book reasonably priced is Nectar of Immortality. That's a really good book and worth ten dollars more, IMHO

This review is from: The Nectar of Immortality: Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj's Discourses on the Eternal (Paperback)
Read this after the main works on Nisargadatta, such as "I Am That". Powell does a good job at capturing many discussions and discourses by Nisargadatta, though the message can get repetitive at times.
