Piano Concerto for the Left Hand and Orchestra,
By
This review is from: Ned Rorem: Piano Concerto for the Left Hand; Eleven Studies for Eleven Players (Audio CD)
American composer Ned Rorem composed
his Piano Concerto for the left hand in 1991;written for and dedicated to the great American pianist Gary Graffman who since 1980 does not plays professionally with his right hand. The work is more of a suite than a concerto, it was written in three sections that break into eight short movements. This concerto is a great addition to an already depleted literature of the left hand alone. The other piece in this recording is a piece with a somwhat missleading tittle:"Eleven Studies for Eleven players" NOT eleven instruments, the players actually play one or more instruments...I really like the music of Rorem, this is a great intro to his compositional style and technique. I highly recommend this recording.
