Need for Speed is the new video game adaptation starring Aaron Paul as blue-collar mechanic Tobey Marshall who's framed for the death of his friend. Then, two years later, Tobey seeks to extract vengeance upon Dino (Dominic Cooper), the man who got his friend killed. In the film, there are plenty of classic action sequences that are purely stunning and spectacular in this day-and-age of CGI-fueled action scenes, as Need for Speed is 100% real stunt work and real racing. And what helps the film stand out is the uniquely heart-felt score from Nathan Furst that's filled with soul and intensity.

Opening with "Marshall Motors," Furst's score starts off with a light, somber sound with a bit of tragedy thrown in. This is soon followed by the track "Lighthouse," which can be found at different moments in the film, but is predominately featured after Tobey wins the first race of the movie. The track "Mustang Offer" sounds deep and somber, but has a sinister touch to it if you listen closely. "Pete's Death" is the tragic track on the score, sounding depressing and hopeless, all the while having beautiful vocals. Honestly, after seeing the movie, i can't not tear up when listening to this, seeing Aaron Paul start to cry after learning he has no way of proving it was Dino who caused the death of his friend. "Motor City Mayhem" is a good action cue that isn't spectacular, but is fun and enjoyable, being upbeat and adventurous sounding. Towards the end of the album we have the track "De Leon Begins," which marks the defining moment of the film, where the official race begins and the fates of Tobey and Dino are set. The next track "Lethal Force" adds drama to the upbeat previous track, having some haunting orchestral and electric sounds mixed together.

I was really impressed with this score. There are some good action cues but there were also some songs that really were emotional and powerful. Some of it kind of reminded me of the score for Friday Night Lights, especially the opening track. I just ordered this cd but I listened to the entire soundtrack at my office from youtube. I liked it so much, I wanted the cd for my car. It is also sentimental value for me since I played the Need for Speed Playstation 1 game all the time in high school. I plan on searching for more Nathan Furst's score work

Nathan did a great job on this soundtrack. I've been a fan of his since Dust to Glory. Keep up the good work Mr. Furst!
