What others are saying about
NEED TO KNOW

"For readers who like a fast paced action story with a decent hint of romance..."
--Jane Litte, dearauthor.com

"Need to Know is one of the best books I've read in a long time. It's intricately plotted but not confusing; funny, but not slapstick; romantic, but not over the top; and best of all - smart."
--Lani Diane Rich, author of A Little Ray of Sunshine

From the Inside Flap

"I'm at a party, too." Liz chugged the rest of her beer. "And I'm in no condition to be your designated driver. Why don't you call a cab?"
"I beg your pardon. I do not need a driver. I just need you to answer a question, quick. What is Columbo's first name?"
"That's an emergency?" She glared at the phone. "You're playing Trivial Pursuit. And you're cheating."
"I'm running out of clothes."
"You're playing..."
"Strip Trivial Pursuit. And I'm not ready to lose, yet."
Liz closed her mind against the images forming and opened another beer. "Please tell me this is a two person game."
"Marion Elizabeth Monahan, that is no way to talk to your mother."

Liz Monahan is tall, beautiful and smart - but most guys don't get past the tall and beautiful part. When her sleazy boyfriend gets her mixed up in a bioterrorist plot, she ends up having to rely on her own smarts to get her out of trouble.

Harper is a gruff secret agent who hates being in the field - especially when he's left holding the bag for his partner's misdeeds. Liz is the key to finding the bad guy, proving his own innocence, and stopping some very dangerous bio-weapons from being released into the general populace.

Need to Know is one of the best books I've read in a long time. It's intricately plotted but not confusing; funny, but not slapstick; romantic, but not over the top; and best of all - smart. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be more in the series. A highly recommended read.

I read "Need to Know" last night in one, mad dash. Now I'm sorry it's over, but look forward to reading more by Christine Merrill. I hope that this is the beginning of a series, because if it is, *whew* sign me up.

The characters are intelligent and realistic. Liz Monahan, the heroine, is flawed yet likeable. Her only crime is wanting to find someone to love. But that need opens up a whole new, dangerous, world for the intrepid (and resourceful) librarian. Harper, the hero, is doing the best he can with the information that he has--too bad that Liz is the key to clearing his name.

Well-plotted, this novel always moves forward. Everything serves to tell the story--and it's a lot of fun.

Christine Merrill is best known for her Regency Historical romances but she turns her hand equally well to the Contemporary novel in this self pubbed thriller.

Need to Know is fast paced and smartly plotted. I found it an engaging read. The tension was built and maintained well and the action sections were skilfully handled.

What set it apart were the flawed but very likeable characters. The heroine is a red-head librarian with a smart mouth and bad taste in men - and the hero is not quite what he seems to be. I do love a 'Man of Mystery' trope... especially when the hero is playing a fades-into-the-background Dweeb.

These characters became very real to me. I was left wanting more when the book ended, and I caught myself worrying about what lay in their futures days after I finished reading. Needless to say I am keen for a sequel. I hope that Ms Merrill will oblige us with one. Soon.

So, if you want a well constructed thriller that is neither confusing nor heavy on the gore, has a nice bit of Unresolved Sexual Tension between two believable characters, then do yourself a favour and check it out.

Sexy, smart, and non-stop story. I read 'Need to Know' in one day.

The story wrapped up in an extremely satisfying manner, but it was difficult to leave the characters behind. I'm also hoping for a sequel because I need to know more about Liz and Harper.

My first book of this kind and I am looking forward to the next one. I really enjoyed it and I couldn't put it down. Liz is the main character of the story, a librarian with a monotone life, but everything changes when she goes on vacation with her boyfriend Max to New York. Being in the wrong place in the wrong moment will make her complice to a fraud and will make her a target for the bad guys.Wanting to understand what is going on and also saving and freeing her from the mess she got into, she will have to trust and stick with Bob Anderson, the guy who tried to kill her the first time they met. A very funny, thrilling, intriguing book with a storyline that is worth it! Enjoy!

I have read several historicals by Christine Merrill and enjoyed each of them. I like the way she develops her characters in a way that makes me really care about what happens to them. I was in the mood to read a contemporary story and decided to give Need to Know a shot. I was not disappointed. In fact, now I am hoping she will continue writing more books in this series. I really want to know more about Harper and Liz! Great read!

Quirky, funny, fun and a bit over-the-top, this romp of a mystery will amuse and delight. A geeky librarian with questionable taste in men finds herself embroiled in murder and a plot to sell biological weapons to the highest bidder. The scene where she vanquishes the villain in a library is, by itself, worthy of the price--a must-read for all librarians!

Need to Know was a smart, funny, fast-paced read. Too fast-paced, really. I read it in one night and wanted more. I'm on the sequel bandwagon. I need to know (haha) what happens with these two.
