We Need A Little Christmas!,
This review is from: We Need a Little Christmas (Audio CD)
This is not as good as Andy Williams classic Christmas albums but it's still pretty good and I think his voice sounded fine but I think that the poppish style in which the musical instruments were played did not blend well with his voice, so I think the fault is not with his singing but with the musical arrangement itself! I really like the song We Need A Little Christmas, it is one of my favorite Christmas songs and my favorite song on the album.

All of Andy's great Christmas hits have been rearranged to sound like some sort of a jazzy smooth more modern version of the old Christmas classics. I made the mistake of not reading the fine print and expected to receive the original styled recordings. Andy, My Oma always said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Stick to the original style that makes you unique. Leave the jazzy sound to the others. I like the old Andy Williams, stay original and traditional and don't go with the times. Your Fan Christine.

Perhaps the most innovative album Andy Williams has recorded in the past 10 years. Andy really steps out of the box on this one and give some very contempoary stylings to some old classics. Yes, this is very different for Andy Williams, but with sales topping 800,000 copies this release was Andy's 23rd Gold or platinum record. It is wonderful to have Andy Williams back in the studio once again.

I thought all the songs were wonderful, some of the songs do show an OLDER Andy Williams voice, we cant be young forever, still I like this selection and I like the arrangements as well, I have grown up with Andy and listen to him to this day. I think Mary's Boy Child is one of the best on this CD. Any true Andy Williams fan will love this CD as well. :)

This CD is great. The first time I heard it a few years ago it helped make the Christmas season a fun time. The songs are great. All of them. I really liked the jazzed up version of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas. It sets a real fine holiday mood. Don't pass this one up just because it's not old stuff.

I like Andy Willams first and foremost but this collection doesn't cut the grade. The arrangements in my opinion don't match Andy's singing style. I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day is too slow and the use of the synthesizer on nearly on the selections is terrible. Missing on Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year is back up singers. This effort by Andy may have been a mistake. This album doesn't even come close to some of the other fine Christmas songs Andy has sung in the past. My advice is to skip this one

Poor Andy, Voice Is Gone,

I thought it was a drunken Davey Jones singing I Heard The Bells....Clearly Andy had lost the golden voice of years ago. Nice valiant effort on his part, but the jazz, weird, Carribean orchestrations do not help. Get his earlier Christmas albums from the 60's instead. They are wonderful, this is just sad. |
