Not that the plot be without potential or the writing bad, quite the contrary. I am a sucker for slash vampire stories: the ingredients for a good vampire hunk vs human hunk interaction are always the same, nobody cares about originality.
Whithin limits, of course.
Here the characters are hard to believe, their personal development and interaction unclear, sex scenes repetitive and full of high sounding sentences and poor in excitement.
I've read a lot of stories and I didn't like this book overall. The beginning was good but everything gets way to repetitive as you go along. If your looking for any type of realism you wont find it here.
-Writing style is fine.
-Bast is very pretty.
-Some nice visual descriptions of people (Bast) or art (Bast's art collection).
-Nicknames are way over done and ill-fitting of the characters. Who the hell calls a 750-year-old vampire 'Baby boy'?
-It dosnt matter where on the body it always tastes like really yummy cliche foods or alcohols, even if they havent showered in about WEEK. This is way over played. I don't care what the vampire says, blood does not taste like "ninety-dollar whiskey with a hint of dark chocolate and a whisper of roasted coffee", especially from a male-hooker. Its just silly.
-Vampire facts are not explained well if at all. The author also didn't put much thought into it.
-Characterization's are also poorly done. All most everything they think about is getting laid and food. They over react and their actions in 'key plot points' are forced by the author. And at some points they can seem overly weepy and woe as me.
-No real plot. The plot is flimsy. The goal for the book is really sex, sex, sappy love scenes, and more sex. I've seen cheesy vampire shows on public cable with more plot.
-There are points in the book the author gives you a taste of important information and then doesn't give it to you.
If I hadn't paid for this book I wouldn't have finished it. How the hell do authors like this get published? I've read better fan fictions and their FREE. At least this is good news for me, I hardly ever write anything but now I know I can get published. I just hope no-one rips me a new one like I just did to Sean Michael. :P
I loved the story but wish it were longer. The story was good and good character development. The sex...well Sean delivers hot gay sometimes BDSM erotic sex! I have been reading many of his ebooks and am hooked. Sean is thinking of part II for Bast and Trick. This book is much shorter than his usual length. But he is a very prolific and imaginative writer and many of his books are quite long.
