4.0 out of 5 stars Need for Speed III
This is a great game for the money. Easy to load, easy to navigate, and very addictive game play. Works excellent on the XP platform which has been an issue with me. Keeps ya going back for more, changing options and starting over again and again. I'd recommend into to anyone into casual game play.

3.0 out of 5 stars Relatively Fun but Too Basic, July 25, 2005
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit (CD-ROM)
Overview:
As a summary, I think Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit is relatively fun but it should have a lot more realism than it does. It is low in realism especially when concerning graphics.

Cars:
The car selection contains a good variety of driving characteristics including top speed and handling. The cars maneuver realistically.

Locations:
This is where I downgrade the program. The graphics look too simple with few color shades. All of the race tracks seem to follow the same style. There are a lot of cool shortcuts though!

Racing Dramatics:
The dramatics are great in the hot pursuit mode. Otherwise the race is dull. In the regular race modes, there is no concept of getting ahead of behind the AI players. The AI cars never crash. You can either get ahead and stay ahead, or fall way behind. There are not many strategies to keep you ahead.

Pursuit Mode:
The getaway pursuit mode is fun. The AI police are challenging and set roadblocks as well as spike strips that flatten you tires. You cannot work with other police in be cop mode which does not make the chase exciting enough.

Conclusion:
For a conclusion remark, the software is acceptable. It just is not dramatic enough at times. It would be a game to consider buying, but I generally would suggest other games more.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Game I Ever Played, April 19, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit (CD-ROM)
Need for Speed 3 is the best game I ever played. It has awesome graphics and great gameplay. In Pursuit mode you can race against others and become "Most Wanted" at the same time. I reccomend this game for everyone. It is truly a fun and thrilling experience.

I love this game! If I had to choose one out of the first four NFS games in the series, then this is, by far, my favorite. I still play it a lot. I'm so glad I kept my old computer because that's the reason why I can still play it! The return of the pursuit mode was great here after it's absence on NFS 2. I still remember when I purchased it back in early 1999. Brings back memories like, for example, when I was in my last year of Junior High School...

The game play is excellent and so are the graphics, especially the sky desing on each track. I liked the music too, but only the hard-rock/metal jams. The techno songs are nothing special. There are five circuits to choose from: "Hometown/Country Woods", "Red Rock Ridge/Lost Canyon", "Atlantica"/"Aquatica", "Rocky Pass"/"The Summit", plus a secret track that you can unlock after winning the knockout competition called "Empire City". Now, for the first time, you can race during the day or at night, plus with rain too!!
But my favorite, by far, is the "Atlantica"/"Aquatica" circuit! A very cool track this is, with those exotic looking buildings. But my favorite part is the boardwalk! When I use the pursuit car and have only one opponent left to bust, this is the place where I like to deploy the spike trip so that, while I wait for the car to come by, I can look at that sunset sky from the boardwalk in Aquatica. I really like this place! That's where I would like to go for a vacation! I like the music (not the techno, but the hard-rock number) that shows up here too. A very cool theme with a melodic guitar solo keeps repeating. I really like this melody and fits well with this part of the track. Of course I thought the other circuits are great too.

As always, a good line-up of exotic cars is featured. The cars are divided into three classes according to their performance: A, B, and C. In the class A you can find cars like Lamborgini Diablo SV, Jaguar XJR-15, Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR, Italdesign Schigera, among others. Class B includes Lamborgini Countach, Chevrolet Corvette, Ferrari F355, and class C features the Jaguar XK8 and Aston Martin DB7. There's also a secret car as well called "El Niño" which is really fast indeed! You have access to it once you win the tournament mode.

The other playing modes, tournament and knockout, are a lot of fun too. Definitely one of the best racing games from the late nineties for sure!
Thanks for taking the time to read!
Later...

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it; wish it would play on my Vista PC!!, November 26, 2008

I really liked this game on my old XP computer. Why it can't run under Vista 64, I'll never know. Microsoft blew it there, as in so many other ways in the past. And don't give me any crap about 32-bit/64-bit. That is absolutely NO excuse, MS!!!

If I ever find the time, I'll fire up the old PC and choose one of the daylight tracks in NFS3, which are sorely absent in the newer Underground.

This was by far one of my favorite games back when I was younger. Then again the NFS series games have always been some of my absolute favorites. I have 2, 3 (this one), 4 (high stakes), 5 (Porsche Unleashed), Underground 2, and more recently Shift, and they're all fantastic. Can't wait for the new hot pursuit to come out in November!

Again another old game that didn't run well under Win xp. I did manage to get it running a few times with freezes and sluggish fps. Most of these older games ran under Glide and not Direct X. Problem the reason it didn't work.

This game is one of my greatest favourites. I have had it for a very long time and I always enjoy it whenever I play it. I like a lot the hot pursuit part and the ability to add cars to the game by downloading them from the internet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best NFS for its time so far, May 7, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit (CD-ROM)
I bought this game in 2000 and it was my favourite. i still have the box in mint condition with the original CD. i still play this game when i get the time. This game is really easy to modify for you hardcore gamers out there. i have many different cars now with different tracks installed. Pusruit mode is a bit easy though, especially if you have a fast car Class B or A then you can easily outrun the Cops. but you can always modify the cops using third party tools to make them be more aggresive. Graphics were excellent and it is still acceptable. Sound and music are good but lack variety. Gameplay is very realistic and takes in to account many physical attributes such as lateral acceleration, torque, tire grip, weight, aerodynamics, brakes, gear ratio, engine tunning and much more. Day and Night mode are also available unlike anyother NFS. you can use your headlights (high beam or low beam) to illuminate the road ahead. Weather is avialble (rain/snow). You can use racing/allseason/winter tires depending on track/weather. Overall best NFS of its time! only complain is lack of variety in cars/music/cops.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Racing Game, May 19, 2004
This review is from: Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit (CD-ROM)
Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit is surely one of the best games for PC. There are many cars to choose from, and if you don't like any car from the list, you can download a new one from the internet!

The gameplay is really challenging, making this game highly addictive and fun. The graphics are pretty good, too. Yeah, they're not the best, but still good. The cars look extremely life-like.

In this game you can race against a second human player. Another good feature is that you don't have to be the racer; you could be the police! You have your radar to detect speeding cars and can stop them with spike strips, roadblocks, and many other things.

If you like challenging games, I think this is the game for you. You won't find a better one.
