4.0 out of 5 stars Wanna Race?
As a fan of Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit, I have to tell you, High Stakes is the next best thing. I am a particular fan of the hot pursuit aspect of the game, so I was a little skeptical if HS was going to pan out. I was pleased to find out that the only thing I found wrong with it was that there aren't as many cool cars to download for it than there is for NFS 3. I...

1.0 out of 5 stars Need for Speed
I bought Need for Speed because I remember the ones they made before this one(They were great). And this one looked pretty cool so I decided to go ahead and buy it. What a mistake that was, a waste of 16 bucks. The graphics are terrible, and the user interfaces are terrible. I advise any one not to get this, unless you like games that look worse that games from the 60's.

I love the realness of the cars, and the new Pursuit functions too. Also, the new tracks are very nice. I know how boring the same old tracks can get, and how after a while you just fly through them without noticing it. I have to say, this game is well worth it if you want a cool racing game, and don't have a lot of time to get good, because you'll get the hang of this one real quick! It's no NASCAR Racing 4, so don't be afraid to try it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars The one and only racing game for the PC, July 31, 2001

This is the best, the creme de la creme so to say. Need for Speed High Stakes has it all: All tracks of NFSIII, first of all. Superfast cars. Beautiful tracks. Fast graphics. And tons of fun. All I ever play is the Hot Pursuit mode which cracks me up everytime I hear the British cops on "Durham Road". This game is fun, fun, fun.

This is the Best racing game ever made. It is so real. It has damage that effects the cars apearence and preformance. Buy a car than up-grade it with the money you win in races! I highly recamend this game to any one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath taking game!!, December 1, 2001

I highly recommend this game for every one loves car racing. The graphics are good but not excellenct. The cars are really unbelivable, I always use the bumper view which put you right in the middle of the action and when you play with really fast cars you won't believe your self. You'll start breathing fast and you'll be very tense with the speed and the curves. I have top of the line system running Windows ME and the game is running great. The only thing that I wish they added to the game is the real car demos like the one they had in NFS SE but even though the game is still excellent and too much fun to play.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Need For Speed" Series is Still Going Fast, November 14, 2001
This review is from: Need for Speed: High Stakes (CD-ROM)
The fourth installment in the popular "Need For Speed" series comes in the form of "Need For Speed: High Stakes." You can race around on a number of tracks in competition with other cars; you can play the cop and try to catch those same reckless drivers; and you can venture onto the roads battling real weather conditions (snow, rain, morning, and night).

This latest installment seems to be one of those "love it or hate it" type of games. One either loves the game for what it is and provides, which is excitement and a host of cool features to toy with; or one hates it because the tracks can get repetitive and the graphics leave much to be desired. Fortunately, I am one of those people who loves this game.

Some good things about the game: The tracks are fun to race on. They are a bit tricky (especially the snow-covered track) until you come to understand how to work them, and even then, they are still challenging. I love the "play the cop" feature; I can't tell you how gratifying it is to be on the other side of the law and show those young whipper-snappers how to drive. I also love how the accents of your fellow coppers change (as well as how the actual cop cars sound) with the various tracks you race on. I particularly like all the international coppers. These are a real treat for me. I also like how you can manipulate the weather. I love racing while it is raining or snowing on the screen. This just adds more depth to an already credible game.

Some not so good things about the game: We can sit here and harp about [...] graphics all day, but I'm not one to do that. I accept them for what they are. Granted, they aren't the best in the world, but they're good enough. The only complaint I have about this game, and this is what keeps it from being a 5-Star game, is the fact that it sometimes just quits on me for no reason. I'll be racing along on some track and then - WHOOPS! - the game shuts down. Other than that sometimes very annoying aspect of the game, I very much enjoy everything else.

If you are a fan of the "Need For Speed" series, or you just like racing games in general, give this one a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great racing game, August 5, 2001
This review is from: Need for Speed: High Stakes (CD-ROM)
This is one of the best racing games ever, second only to its successor Need For Speed:Porsche Unleashed . However, it has some things not in porsche unleashed like Hot Pursuit, but the graphics and sound both leave A bit to be desired. Don't count it out though, its A solid game, I suggest you get both NFS:High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed and enjoy the best of both of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars getting bored? Add different tracks and cars online!, April 8, 2001

This game has a lot going for it. If you are tired of any nfs game, you can go to any of nfs affliated sites and download different cars and tracks. You can have as many as 50 cars each in high stakes and hot pursuit. Replacement tracks are also easy to find. Total nfs has great stuff and additional links to get more stuff from different sites as well. I have had this game since it came out and I am still NOT bored. This game rocks! And at the new low price its a steal.
