Realistic Driving Dynamics,
By
This review is from: Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
The driving dynamics on this game are excellent. In fact, I can find no other racing game that lets you race real cars with as realistic driving physics. The scenery and attention to detail are great, as is the ability to pregress through the various classic cars through the years.I only wish I could race other cars besides Porsches, and it's a shame that all the newest racing games have gotten so "arcadey", with miserable driving behavior. The newer games have fantastic visuals and effects, but none can match the realistic driving dynamics of NFS PU. Until they do, I will continue to race PU.

I'm taking one star away only because this game occasionally locks up under Windows XP -- especially during the intro movie and the replay movies of a race. The races themselves, however, are VERY seldom marred by a lock-up.The positives are that the graphics and game play are terrific. Using a force feedback rasing wheel provides a special treat during the count-down to a race by providing a very startling and real sense of a car throbbing with power that wants to unleash itself. The attention to detail is a treat -- shimmering fog over the water that you're racing by, sun glaring against the windshield, a lighthouse with a revolving light, and (what a concept!) a driver in the car. You can race on the open road with user-defined light, medium, or heavy traffic -- or simply limit the race just to the participating cars. Go for the traffic. There is even some intelligence to the traffic. If you don't move out of the way of the oncoming drivers early enough, you may well confuse the oncoming driver into changing lanes as you do in his effort to avoid a collision. Also, you're not the only driver on the road capable of crashing into the traffic. On occasion, you'll see an accident unfold in front of you. Be too aggressive and you'll join the pile-up. This is a top-notch game well worth a heckuva lot more than its current price. (I guess everyone wants to shoot it out with monster after monster in those dreadful DOOM rip-offs. Each to his own.)

Need For Speed. Yes I have a need for speed, and this game helped fulfill some of that need. NFS Porsche Unleashed is fun and playable in many different aspects. There is the racing. Great cars, great speeds, and fantastic physics for these cars. You get to race through an entire history of the Porsche cars. While doing so you are given the chance to collect the different cars in your garage for racing, or selling later. Also, with all that in mind you can also try your luck as a Porsche Factory Driver. All in all this game is fun and has lasting replayability.

First of all, i would like to congratulate EA for bringing such a realistic not to mention addictive game to the PC!I have never played the NFS series before! and just recently when I heard about NFS:Porshe Unleashed i immediately got a copy.......and i never looked back or even touched my other racing simulation i got installed on my power house ( my PC!) ever since! Porshe unleashed has it all: >good realistic graphics >good sound (make sure you have a nice pair of speakers!) >good gameplay >good handling >good environment and everything else that's GOOD! but best of all I had the chance of driving (maybe not for real) my dream car ever since i was a kid! To sum it up! I love it! I love IT! and i can't get enough of it! If only.....in the future EA could bring other NFS Unleash series, it would make NFS the next generation in car simulation game!

Scenic Drive,

Ever want to take a fast sports car and drive through the scenic European towns and villages racing against other drivers with the birds chirping in the background on a Sunday morning? Attention to beautiful location detail is key sets this racing game apart from others. It's at a bargain of a price these days. I still play it on Windows XP though I've got the Xbox with other racing games.

Unbelievably realistic driving simulation!,

Along with Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit, this, the fifth title in the pc racing game series, is all you really want to buy if you want the absolute best the NFS series (or any other driving series) offers. And that goes for the followup and sixth in the series also. Get 3 (Hot Pursuit) and this, and you've got all the NFS for the PC you really need.I have tried NFS one through five, six being out of the range of my computer system specs. Six wouldn't run on my computer and from what I've read it sounds pretty awful, so having already bought NFS3:HotPursuit, and wanting more, I sampled all the rest the series had to offer, trying demos. NFS one and two are pretty poor compared to the breakthrough in graphics that was NFS3. I've reviewed NFS3 elsewhere on Amazon. Playing the demo of the FOURTH in the series, Need For Speed: High Stakes, I was very unimpressed. I think they took a backstep on that one. And finally, I tried the demo of five, this, Porsche Unleashed. I suggest that before anyone invest ANY money these days, unless you have a super computer and a healthy bank account, to always try to find DEMOS of the game you're considering buying. Do a search on the internet for these. It was after playing the demo (ad nauseum) of NFS3 that I bought the game. And after playing the demo for Porsche Unleashed, I knew I had to have this one as well. This is almost all about Porsches. Now, they're okay and all, and of course it would be fun to have a game of THIS caliber that could feature tons of other cars. But you'd probably have to make it a 100 CD box-set or something. You don't even need to especially be into the Porsche series of automobiles to love this game. But if you love a fantastic looking, almost photo realistic driving/racing arcade/simulation eye candy good time, buy this game! There are so many great things about this game. If your system has the specs to handle it (always be sure to CAREFULLY check out spec requirements before purchasing ANY game or software), this is an amazing bargain. The graphics are unbelievable, even better than in NFS3. There are less tracks, no hot pursuit mode, and of course, only one brand here to play with, but this hardly detracts from what you get here. Installation is easy, but one needs to take a bit of time to customize the graphics, sound, and joystick/gamepad controller. The music is your typical variety of techno/rockish/weird stuff, but you can turn the music off and play MP3's in the background. Drive around Europe listening to whatever music you like. Sound effects are great and the engine and road noises perfect. Visually and audio-wise, this is as good as it gets. The plain old "driving" aspect of this game is where it really shines for me. There are modes where you can be a "test driver" and something Grand Turismo style of buying and upgrading cars and all of that, but it's the DRIVING of Porsche Unleashed that makes it such a great game. Though I have no real complaints with any of the driving aspects of previous NFS games, Porsche Unleashed seems to me to be as close to driving an actual car as you can get. It's in an arcade fashion, but handles like a simulation. A very difficult thing to explain, but in all other racing games I've tried, there was always a sense of just playing a game. In NFS:Porsche Unleashed, you ARE the driver! If you bought and love NFS3:Hot Pursuit, you will love this and should buy it. Play the demo first. Make sure it all runs great on your computer. If it does, buy the game. Forget the newer title, and all NFS titles on the pc (except NFS3), or the PSOne or PS2 or X-Box or Nintendo whatever. The graphics in this game blow everything away, and it's like driving a real car in the most gorgeous natural and man-made (Monte Carlo at NIGHT!) scenery YOU will probably never see in real life. Yes, there should be more tracks, but the factory driver and evolution modes pretty much make up for this. What tracks there are, are stunning, and this is as close to a very realistic simulation of driving an actual car, any car, that you're likely to find on any system. At times when playing this, I have to laugh out loud at just how close to the real thing this is. It takes some practice, but once you get the hang of it, NFS: Porsche Unleashed is as real as it gets.

If you want to drive a Porsche for real, this is it !! I can't tell you about the newer models but the older ones are extremely realistic. I used to race Porsches back in the 60's. Start with the evolution series. You can even modify the cars as you go !!! Despite my address, home is in Colorado !!!

NFS Porsche is the best in this series. It was released in 2000, amazing graphics on my Pentium 3 when I first played by that time. You will not get boredom with it, lots of action, choose models from 1950 till 2000 year. Very realistic driving mode. Turn the ABS OFF and don't forget handbrake... :)

This game may be almost 10 years old but it hasn't lost its fun. I have played this game and finished it numerous times and on different difficulty levels and enjoyed it. I hope to see EA bring out Porsche Unleashed 2 because I would definitely buy it.
