2.0 out of 5 stars Hitting the wall December 29, 2008
Platform for Display:PlayStation2
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
Another year, another Need for Speed game; we all know the drill. Instead of basically putting a little new polish on an old title, Need for Speed: Undercover instead finds EA's long running street racing series reverting back to the days when the franchise was churning out tired and boring installments. Undercover follows the same formula we've pretty much seen with Need for Speed: Most Wanted onward, only Undercover hardly has any of the charm, or fun factor, of that game, Carbon, or Prostreet. The open world setup of the game just comes off as being a pointless feature considering there isn't too much that you can actually do in it. Add to the fact that the city itself just bland, lifeless, and dull. The racing itself isn't too bad though, although it won't take long to get repetitive and just come off as what you've played before in countless other Need for Speed games, albeit done much better and more exciting. The game's soundtrack is decent though, but sadly, the PS2 version is loaded with opposing cars that pop-up out of nowhere, and a graphics engine that is in need of a serious upgrade, and really finds the PS2 showing its age. All in all, Need for Speed: Undercover doesn't offer anything you haven't played before, and sadly, anything you've played better either.

2.0 out of 5 stars What a letdown! August 17, 2010
Platform for Display:PlayStation2|Verified Purchase
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I am going to rip NFS:Undercover for PS 2 a new Arse, so be prepared! I am only 35% + percent way done with the game so keep that in mind. If you are coming from NFS: Most Wanted, you are going to be sorely disappointed. here are the pros and cons of this game for this console:

Pros: Lots o' muscle cars! I love em, you love em, nuff said.
Cash is very easy to get, seems to give more per race than before
The Highway System is expanded
The "Camera System" used when your backing up is brand new and I
actually love using it now, its beautiful! Its kind of like a
reverse camera angle so you can see your car from the front.
For some reason, every NFS game I get, I always find some Great songs
on the soundtrack, and this one is no exception!

Cons: The high speed chases are glitchy and disjointed visually
The Safehouse graphics are the worst I have seen in all PS 2 NFS games!!
Dont bother with the new Patented AutoSculpt feature b/c the
graphics
when looking at any car in the Safehouse are so bad, you cant see
most of it, or the car for that matter! NFS Most Wanted had
beautiful sunlight/light movement and shading for its cars,
it is completely gone here.
NFS Underground had 3 "Upgrade Sets" you could get for each performance
section. They put it in this game, and it is all you can upgrade
your car with performance wise.
Every race I have seen so far (except Stolen Car races- where your
instantly put in a stolen car to outrun the cops and get to the
destination without damaging the car too much) all have strictly
muscle cars racing.

2.0 out of 5 stars New finish on a PS One game? January 16, 2009
Platform for Display:PlayStation2
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I wish I could get my money back on this one, because it has been a sore disappointment. If you liked Most Wanted and Carbon, keep playing those because Undercover is a step back in graphics and gameplay. As a long time fan of the Need For Speed series, I was looking forward to the next installment, but found that I would rather go back to the old PS One NFS High Stakes game than this one.

Some say the world map is good, but if you really got to know Most Wanted, it is basically the same map with fewer side streets.

The only thing it has going for it is the soundtrack, which is about the only reason I kept playing it after a couple of races.

The difficulty is laughable as well. I chose hard initially thinking it might make the races closer, but I would be 5-10 seconds ahead of the competition even on the early races. No challenge at all.

Blatent use of name brand to try and sell a few copies of a terrible game. Don't waste your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as nice as other need for speed games April 12, 2013

But for the price you can't argue. It's a nice little game and fun to play. Although it doesn't take very long and isn't hard at all to beat

1.0 out of 5 stars Bomber to co-pilot September 4, 2009
Platform for Display:PlayStation2
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
Im disapointed. The graphics is much the same as the original Underground . No texturmaping and shadows are darker then should be. The background fades far to deep into the forground and is hard to see unless on a large screen. This makes driving harder.

Controls: Plain and simple. They suck. There is no changing of button functions to fit with a persons playing style. Sorry guys no using stick 2 for throttle anymore :( its back to the X button and NO proportional acceleration for drifting corners like you could in Most Wanted and Carbon.

Driving: Cars handle like bricks. They also flip and crash rather easily. They are under powered and over priced. They sink into the scenary and road surface and look like cheap 3D models. This game is no where near the detail that Underground 2 , Most Wanted, or Carbon were...

In my opinion with Pro Street and Undercover? NFS seems to be falling down the ladder to the pile of once great now become tragic disapointment.

DISAPOINTING.
