5.0 out of 5 stars More fun than NFS Most Wanted
I feel a bit sad for those apparently jaded gamers who rated this fun new addition to the NFS oeuvre so low. If you love the fast driving and chasing aspects of most of the NFS series this should be very fun. The physics are great with the ability to send cars flying and do seriously wild maneuvers. 3.0 out of 5 stars A step back

My 9 years child said, the graphics aren't good, "Need for Speed Carbon" and "Most Wanted" have better graphics. I agree with him. I feel more adrenaline playing these games.

I think better graphics will give a nice adrenaline boost, the history it's good, but overall, I think Carbon and Most Wanted, are better games.

If you love the fast driving and chasing aspects of most of the NFS series this should be very fun. The physics are great with the ability to send cars flying and do seriously wild maneuvers. As for the graphics, while certainly falling short of the PS3 version, they are better than the earlier entries in the series. The image blurring with NOS is intense. This game has some of the most wide open and largest drving spaces of any game ever.

I was going to buy this game no matter what the reviews
had to say. I just finished NFS Carbon, and this is the
next installment.
I have no idea WHY some other gamers HATE this game.
Its REALLY fun! AND they added a new function to the
right analog stick that you can look around you to see things
while driving around the city's instead of having to have the car
face something directly to see it! The movies are good,
(Maggie Q and Christina Milian are super cute! its a guy thing...)
but a lot of time you have to kind of guess "what just happened?"
lolz
Need For Speed fan? don't miss this one.

It took me a couple times of playing it to figure out some of the details, but once I did that, I am having an awesome time with it. TONS of fun!!

P.D. If you're a Need for Speed series fan, you don't expect a better game than Carbon or Most Wanted.

If you're new playing the series, I give a 7.0 grade of a 10.0 scale.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hitting the wall, December 29, 2008
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Need for Speed: Undercover (Video Game)
Another year, another Need for Speed game; we all know the drill. Instead of basically putting a little new polish on an old title, Need for Speed: Undercover instead finds EA's long running street racing series reverting back to the days when the franchise was churning out tired and boring installments. Undercover follows the same formula we've pretty much seen with Need for Speed: Most Wanted onward, only Undercover hardly has any of the charm, or fun factor, of that game, Carbon, or Prostreet. The open world setup of the game just comes off as being a pointless feature considering there isn't too much that you can actually do in it. Add to the fact that the city itself just bland, lifeless, and dull. The racing itself isn't too bad though, although it won't take long to get repetitive and just come off as what you've played before in countless other Need for Speed games, albeit done much better and more exciting. The game's soundtrack is decent though, but sadly, the PS2 version is loaded with opposing cars that pop-up out of nowhere, and a graphics engine that is in need of a serious upgrade, and really finds the PS2 showing its age. All in all, Need for Speed: Undercover doesn't offer anything you haven't played before, and sadly, anything you've played better either.

2.0 out of 5 stars What a letdown!, August 17, 2010

I am going to rip NFS:Undercover for PS 2 a new Arse, so be prepared! I am only 35% + percent way done with the game so keep that in mind. If you are coming from NFS: Most Wanted, you are going to be sorely disappointed. here are the pros and cons of this game for this console:

Pros: Lots o' muscle cars! I love em, you love em, nuff said.
Cash is very easy to get, seems to give more per race than before
The Highway System is expanded
The "Camera System" used when your backing up is brand new and I
actually love using it now, its beautiful! Its kind of like a
reverse camera angle so you can see your car from the front.
For some reason, every NFS game I get, I always find some Great songs
on the soundtrack, and this one is no exception!

Cons: The high speed chases are glitchy and disjointed visually
The Safehouse graphics are the worst I have seen in all PS 2 NFS games!!
Dont bother with the new Patented AutoSculpt feature b/c the
graphics
when looking at any car in the Safehouse are so bad, you cant see
most of it, or the car for that matter! NFS Most Wanted had
beautiful sunlight/light movement and shading for its cars,
it is completely gone here.
NFS Underground had 3 "Upgrade Sets" you could get for each performance
section. They put it in this game, and it is all you can upgrade
your car with performance wise.
Every race I have seen so far (except Stolen Car races- where your
instantly put in a stolen car to outrun the cops and get to the
destination without damaging the car too much) all have strictly
muscle cars racing.
This game reminds me of a "muscle car" take on NFS Most Wanted with
some hints/cues from Fast & Furious 2 in it (ex: the first two
muscle cars for sale are a Challenger and a Camaro.. a little
Ironic)
The lower/downtown streets of the city are completely gone! The only
downtown street left in the entire tri cities area is a city -long
back trashy allyway you can drive. everything else is Highway
Driving. Dont expect to see any normal city streets.
All Car Lots/Safehouses/Upgrade shops in NFS Most Wanted are gone. You
do all that in the Safehouse. No where else.
The graphic designs of the cars both you can buy and in the city itself
are extremely poor quality
They put way too many Video clips in the game/ even though the woman
they used is HOT HOT and they show teaser pics of her in her shorts
The color schemes for your cars are a lot more limited now. They give
you the basic pallet of 15 colors and of each one there are just
a bunch of shades of it.
If your coming to this game from NFS Most Wanted or Underground series,
be prepared for a very easy, linear game. Of all the races I have
done so far (35+), I have only lost one on my first try. Plus, after
every race, you just click two buttons and jump to the next race.
There is nothing in the middle, no depth or real design here. You
can go into Free Roam, but with only a highway system to roam, there
is not much point/gets very boring quickly.
If you hit a cop car, usually it will fly off like paper in the wind and
disappear as if it never existed/ those chasing you fly around you
like they are psychotic and a cop car could never actually move
like. Their movement and behavior in this game is very peculiar and
strange now. Oh by the way, no more spike strips. Just cop cars that
fly off a hundred miles away never to be seen again. I am serious.
Really, I am serious.

I hope NFS Carbon is a lot better than this. If anything we can revel in the NFS muscle car version of Fast and Furious 2 and all its glory. It was one of the best in the series In My Opinion! But be forwarned!

This game is a spin off of the Most Wanted game that came out earlier. Seems as though the people at E.A. did not put a whole lot of effort into it. May even be some left overs that they had from most wanted.
The game was fun but I was somewhat disappointed because it was hyped up to be more than it is.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bomber to co-pilot, September 4, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Need for Speed: Undercover (Video Game)
Im disapointed. The graphics is much the same as the original Underground . No texturmaping and shadows are darker then should be. The background fades far to deep into the forground and is hard to see unless on a large screen. This makes driving harder.

Controls: Plain and simple. They suck. There is no changing of button functions to fit with a persons playing style. Sorry guys no using stick 2 for throttle anymore :( its back to the X button and NO proportional acceleration for drifting corners like you could in Most Wanted and Carbon.

Driving: Cars handle like bricks. They also flip and crash rather easily. They are under powered and over priced. They sink into the scenary and road surface and look like cheap 3D models. This game is no where near the detail that Underground 2 , Most Wanted, or Carbon were...

In my opinion with Pro Street and Undercover? NFS seems to be falling down the ladder to the pile of once great now become tragic disapointment.

DISAPOINTING.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just buy most wanted or carbon instead, February 25, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Need for Speed: Undercover (Video Game)
I'm an old-school gamer. I HAVE to use the D-pad for all my games. Analog is for the little kids, the new generation (which wouldn't be playing games at all were it not for us 20+ year olds who grew up with atari's and NES which had the D-pad)
After realizing I couldn't play the game the way I wanted to, I still decided to give it a try. The graphics are awful. Gran Turismo (PS1) looked better on my LCD. Seriously. If you want a good game, buy Most Wanted (still my favorite) or Carbon. If you've already beat both of them, buy Most Wanted : Black Edition. Don't know what that is? Look it up. Well worth it.

2.0 out of 5 stars New finish on a PS One game?, January 16, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Need for Speed: Undercover (Video Game)
I wish I could get my money back on this one, because it has been a sore disappointment. If you liked Most Wanted and Carbon, keep playing those because Undercover is a step back in graphics and gameplay. As a long time fan of the Need For Speed series, I was looking forward to the next installment, but found that I would rather go back to the old PS One NFS High Stakes game than this one.

Some say the world map is good, but if you really got to know Most Wanted, it is basically the same map with fewer side streets.

The only thing it has going for it is the soundtrack, which is about the only reason I kept playing it after a couple of races.

The difficulty is laughable as well. I chose hard initially thinking it might make the races closer, but I would be 5-10 seconds ahead of the competition even on the early races. No challenge at all.

Blatent use of name brand to try and sell a few copies of a terrible game. Don't waste your money.
