Awesome starter game for the PSP,

This review is from: Need for Speed: Underground Rivals (Video Game)
This is an awesome game. It's like Need for Speed: Underground, with some features from Need for Speed: Underground 2. This graphics are AWESOME!!!! They are just like PS2 graphics and I was amazed when I saw this game.
You choose a car and you can tune it out with visual and preformence upgrades. You can own up to 20 cars and four bonus cars so there's a lot of cars to choose from. There are also many new game modes. All the modes include: Drag, Drift, Street X (off road racing), Circuit, Lap Knockout, Rally Race (race with two different cars), and a mode where you race a random tricked out car. The last thing to say about this gam,e is the soundtrack, it's AWESOME!!! They are songs from Need for Speed: Underground 1 and 2 plus new songs. Some of the artists include: Spiderbait, Skindred, My Chemical Romance, Xzibit, Snoop Dogg and The Doors, Chingy, and a lot more. There are also some music videos to watch. This game is a very fun game and a very easy game to learn how to play so I recommend it for new PSP players and racing fans. This game is a lot of fun but some people might want to rent it before they buy it (gamefly.com *Please Refer Me).

More Fun Than i Thought It Would Be,

OK, so it is more fun than I thought it would be. The raceing is different than burnout in more ways than just slower. It is definately slower. However, these races have tons of turns, drifting and jumps. For me this is an advantage over Burnout. Burnout is more fun, but i do appreciate the variety in racing tracks by having lots of jumps. Probably the perfect game would be a Burnout game with jumps. Anyway. Bottom Line: Get this game if you are now in the market for a bargain bin psp game that is still a pretty good racer. I Like this way better than Ridge Racer.

Rock solid racer,

This review is from: Need for Speed: Underground Rivals (Video Game)
This is definitely the best 'conventional' racer released thus far for the PSP (personally, I prefer Wipeout Pure, but that's a different kind of racer). Let's break it down:
Graphics: pretty unreal. Smooth animations, no frame-dropping, very high-poly, great colors, the whole nine. Graphically very rich and finished. Audio: practically the same as the original. Maybe not as many tracks, but all high-quality. In-game audio is also very well done with plenty of excellent sound effects. Control: At first, it's a little awkward, but that's not the game's issue, it's the learning-curve for the analog stick on the PSP. Trying to use the d-pad with this game is like picking your nose with heavy gloves. After a little bit of play, though, you start to realize that the game designers really put a lot of thought into adapting the gameplay to this analog stick, and things go fairly smoothly from there. Button layout otherwise is well thought out. Gameplay: Definitely a lot of fun, I wish it had the same 'open' gameplay that the big brother has, but it was very clearly designed for fast one-off type games and the portable console (an excellent decision on the part of the designers.) There's 20 cars (plenty for everyone), there's the usual customizations and an interesting system of vehicle customization that simplifies things immensely and is actually pretty cool, and there's a healthy number of tracks. The graphics definitely compare to Ridge Racer, but I think the gameplay is overall better. Different kinds of game, even though they're very similar. Thing is, how many racers can you really buy?

Good...but is it need for speed?,

This review is from: Need for Speed: Underground Rivals (Video Game)
Longtime racing game need for speed came up with a new title exclusively on psp last year. The game isnt that much of great but still its the first game i got for my psp and i liked it.I think it could have been way better i dont know what they were trying to prove with this game but it isnt the need for speed i once played.
But it also has its goods as the graphics are very nice and there is many cars. The enviroments arent great i dont like the desings for racetracks they just lost the edge they had.You can upgrade many parts of your car and choose many things. The cars are looking really good once you change them and you have paint, vinyls and more to customize your car. I was a bit disapointed i tough this would be a great game but it turned out to be a commercial game and i dont really recomend it.If you want good games try the burnout game and the most wanted

Great Foundation For The NFS line for the PSP,
By

This review is from: Need for Speed: Underground Rivals (Video Game)
First, I'm a huge fan of the NFS line. This game was the second game i bought for the Sony PSP and was a bit sceptical about it after buying Ape Escape. But this game changed my mind. The Upgrade system is probably the best system ever, having rollover system upgrades, and the visual upgrade system you really dont have to buy. The fact that in the end you can have every car and every upgrade is a definate plus. The only things I don't like about it are the few tracks you have to run on, the annoying drift mode, and the music from NFSU2. Overall this game is a good one and is (in my honest opinion) better than Ridge Racer.
PS. The Wi-Fi ability is VERY entertaining between friends.

Need for Speed: Underground Rivals......,

Need for Speed: Underground Rivals is everything you know and love about the Underground series but in portable form. Ditching the open city environment of Underground 2 in favor of racing like you did in the first Underground, Need for Speed Underground Rivals delivers the goods of pure street racing and it does so in style. It should be mentioned, though, that certain elements of Underground 2 were also added to make this version of the Underground series a step above the console versions. Compete against rivals in 10 all-new tracks, and customize as well as compete against high-performance tuner cars from the U.S. and Japan. You'll be just as amazed with Rivals as you were when you first saw Need for Speed Underground on the PS2. The sense of speed is blistering. Control and handling is dead-on. And, the graphics are simply amazing(just check out the wet-slick streets you race on as well as the motion blur of the lights as you pass by or the sleek look of the cars you race in and tune up). Out of them all, this has to be my favorite thus far. The one thing I love most about Rivals is the riveting soundtrack you're listening to while you race. Loaded with lots of your favorite artists, it'll, definitely, keep the excitement going while you race...believe me.
I've read reviews where people go on about how Ridge Racers is so much better a racing game on the PSP(only because it supports 8 players in multiplayer while Rivals supports 2). In my opinion, the only game to ever hold a candle to the Underground series is the Midnight Club series. Until the PSP version of Midnight Club comes out, Rivals will be the ultimate street racing champ in my book and my most favorite racing game of all. Besides, Ridge Racers is an entirely different type of racing game and should be judged on its' own merits(which it is, indeed, an awesome game itself). Street racing fans and regular racing fans alike will love NFSU Rivals for what is....a classy street racer that will keep them occupied for weeks.

Best Racing Game Ever!!!,

I've never been a fan of racing games. I've played both Gran Turismo and Project Gotham Racing. Many racing game fans say that Gran Turismo is the best game out there. In my opinion, Gran Turismo is crap when compared with this game. This is one of the first two games I recieved with my PSP. I love the fact that its portable.
Graphics: For a handheld system, the graphics in this game are outstanding. Even if this hadn't been on a handheld, I don't believe there would have been many complaints. Gameplay: Extremely easy to learn the controls, even for someone whos hasn't touched a PlayStation or PlayStation2 in years. It is also very addictive. I can't stop playing it. You just want to unlock everything as fast as you can. It does get repetitive after a while, but that doesn't bother me. Its always fun to race on a course you know. I don't know if this game has any replay value although if it does, I can't imagine it being great because you will have unlocked everything already. Sound: The soundtrack for this game is one of the best I have ever heard. Its got a little bit of everything for all tastes, without being to extreme in any one direction. I really enjoy cranking up the volume (which gets very loud on the PSP)to hear the music. The sound effects are also very good. When you change gears, you hear the car change gears. When you hit the breaks and slide, you hear it. When you crash and want to restart the race because your -15 seconds of the lead, you hear it. All in all I give this game 5/5 for its excellent performance on a portable system.

Very, very fun game. Where to start. Well the graphics are crazy, its hard to look at it and think "wow, this is a hand help game!". The soundtrack is very good, alot of rap, rock, techno, most of this songs where used in need for speed underground 2. Also if you know how to, you can customize your soundtrack to listen to whatever you want, how cool is that? The loading times are very good, they only take like 4-9 seconds, sometimes faster, now compare that to midnight club 3 witch take almost 60 seconds! Dont belive me, play the two and compare. They also put in a new racing mode, nitro run, very fun its a regular circut race, except you have to clear a certain amount of checkpoints using as much NOS as you can. There are alot of cars to choose from, from import to domesitc. And wireless gameplay with other people is just plain cool. A couple of things I did not like about this game was the upgrade appearance parts. There are not many, some cars only have 4 hoods and 5 body kits to choose from. Compared to the council version this is bad. So yes there is a poor amount of appearance parts for the cars. Also the drifting game mode (one of my favs on the council version) there is only one driving course, and it really, really easy. It almost gets boring. So they took my favorite part of need for speed underground and made it boring.
Overall this game is very good, I dont regret spending my money on it, it is preety addicting. All bad points aside if you are a fan of the need for speed underground series buy this. If you are skeptic rent it and check it out.

NFSUR,

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Need for Speed: Underground Rivals (Video Game)
I just bought this game about and 3 hours ago with my PSP. This game is crazy. It is just as good as the PS2 versions, maybe better. This game features 20 liscened cars. The new muscle cars look great. Corvettes, Classic Mustangs to name a few.
The only confusing thing is when you first play the game. The controls are a bit different then the ps2. O is Nos instead of L1 but once you get used to the button change you feel right at home. Also the first time I played i was confused whether to use the analong stick or the directional buttons. Both work great but I find that the analog works best. The game is great. I love it! Good game but only if you already own Burnout Legends,

This game was quite fun, and like many other PSP games is much like a stripped down version of its home processors. In case you are unfamiliar to the series, Need For Speed Underground is a very successful series famous for its complete customization of your vehicles. Even more fun, you can race your pimped out car online for PSP where you will be facing other people who are also showing off their rides. In career mode, the main focous of the game, you start with a car which you can upgrade in two ways. The first is visual upgrades, in which you earn by winning races. The second is performance upgrades, in which you earn performance points through races to upgrade various parts of your car, and if you own multiple cars the upgrades apply to all. You can also unlock new cars as the game goes on. The game features three types of similar races. The first type just a regular circuit race where you are in a 3-4 lap race. The second is lap knockout where the person in last after each lap is eliminated. The third type is rally relay race where you race 2-3 laps, changing cars after each lap. I'd say that NFSUR is a great racing game, but just doesn't live up to Burnout in terms of game modes or graphical power.
