No....Excellent Stuff!, July 26, 2011
What an awesome mixture of grass roots music. It blends blues, gospel, bluegrass and love songs that are nicely paced throughout the CD. The usual suspected instruments are present, used tastefully and played superbly. There is acoustic, bass and steel guitar, traps, piano, harmonica, mandolin, banjo, pump organ and accordion and excellent choral harmonies (when I give it another listen I might hear more). Eric's voice is solid and his phrasing is genuine and soul stirring. He has Robert Johnson caliber chops on the guitar when he plays solo, he effortlessly sounds like more than one musician.
This disc is in 4.0 format. The mix makes refined use of the surround channels creating the effect of inflating the front image making the band sound as if they are performing live in your space. You hear the distinct placement of the musicians, great detail and dynamics. This is a very natural sounding production from Opus 3, the audio quality is close to reference (IMO). Hairs shy of Muddy's - Folk Singer DVD-A (24/192).
If you like the elements depicted here you will be extremely impressed with this SACD, also I think it is priced relatively reasonable.
