Book Description

June 8, 1995

The Needlecrafter's Computer Companion shows readers hundreds of ways to use an ordinary home computer to create needlework designs as innovative as their imaginations or as traditional as the ones in Grandma's hope chest. Interviews with computer-savvy stitchers give the book a personal feel and make it more accessible to the novice.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

What a find! Judy Heim, columnist for PC World, realized that there are a huge amount of needleworkers quickly taking over the World Wide Web. Her unambiguous computer companion is a blessing for anyone using a needle for handwork. My copy is filled with little yellow post-it notes marking sections on where I can find patterns on the web, clip art, forums and software reviews. It even comes with two disks to give you a taste of what software is available. Worth every penny. Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars OUT OF DATE-, May 22, 2001

This review is from: Needlecrafter's Computer Companion: How to Use Your Computer for Sewing, Quilting, and Other Needlecrafts (Paperback)
I was so happy when I ordered this book, hoping it would help me combine my two pasions, cross stitching and computers.... but dont make the same mistake as I: this book is very nicely designed and written but it is totally out of date... when talking about the internet and computers it is essential to have updated information, adn in this case, a book written motre than 5 years ago is a piece for a museum. Internet wasnt even a boom when it was written, so imagine the kind of information it might portray. I wish someohow I would have been told of this... so please take my advice and spare yourself some money

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable for any needlecrafter/computer enthusiast!, March 12, 1999
By
This review is from: Needlecrafter's Computer Companion: How to Use Your Computer for Sewing, Quilting, and Other Needlecrafts (Paperback)
This book has provided me with the tools to combine two of my favorite activities and make each one more enjoyable. Needlework and computers seem about as far apart as any two interests can be, but now I am aware of just how many others there are who enjoy both pasttimes and combine the two for even more enjoyment. The book is broken down into sections dealing with the various needlework disciplines, e.g. cross stitch, needlepoint, quilting, knitting, sewing, etc. Heim tells how to utilize the computer to enhance your enjoyment of your favorite needlecraft and does it in a very straightforward manner that even the novice computer user can follow. If you have ever wanted to put your computer to work designing beautiful needlework, or even if you have never thought to try, this is the ultimate source for the knowledge to do so. She also provides a world of references to locate software for almost any computer from Tandy's to Pentium II's.

Could not give a 0 star. Should have read the reviews. I agree with the reviewer who said that it is out of date. A book dealing with computers and the Internet that is more than 2 years old (7 in this case) needs to be pulled from the shelf.
Very disappointed!!
