I used this device to suspend an 85 watt, full spectrum CFL bulb over a 3-5 gall grow bucket during the vegetative stage of my indoor grow room.

Compared to the Limo Studio brand, the Neewer brand is superior.

The Neewer brand has a metal sleeve to screw your CFL bulb into firmly.

Whereas, the Limo Studio brand does not.

I found the Limo Studio plastic threads to be unsecure, thus placing the bulb at risk.

Whereas, on the other hand, with the Neewer socket being of metal alloy, rather than molded plastic, the bulb screwed in firmly and tight.

Both had approx 9 - 10 ft. cords, so either way you have plenty of room to maneuver.

But, the Neewer wins out for durability of the metal sleeve to hold the bulb in place firmly.

If you look closely at the picture of the Neewer brand, you will see the superior metal sleeve inside the bulb socket.

The 85 watt 'full spectrum' CFL bulb is a huge bulb with additional weight to suspend. If you mount your Neewer socket firmly, and if you firmly screw the medium bulb into the metal sleeve of the Neewer socket, you should have 'no hay problema' for (18) hours on, (8) hours off.

Make sure your timer is plugged into a surge cube to protect your investment in the 85 watt CFL 'full spectrum' bulb.

I received these the other day and was very disappointed.I bought two of these. One was unusable out of the box. The other worked for about 5 minutes before shorting out. Requesting a refund

I like the way this articulates and mounts, but the thin metal threaded ring in the socket fell out. Bulbs won't thread in. This happened the first time I tried it, when I pulled it out of the box. YMMV, but I'm sending this back and will order another brand, hopefully not China and hopefully higher quality. Some of the products with the "Neewer" name on it have been pretty good, for a cheap Chinese mfg, but this one doesn't hold up to the name.

My tiny studio never has enough lights, so I keep a drawer of E27 Bulb Holders for rim, hair and background lights. The build of this Neewer fixture is light duty, so don't play rough with it and never over torque the bulb (gently snug up). The metal socket is attached directly to the plastic case and looks fragile. Wish it had a ceramic shield like my light heads. With that said, I've not had any problems with these lights over the course of a year. I've used 60 and 85 watt CFLs for hours and it has performed well.

The mount is plastic fantastic and integral to the light housing. It fits 5/8" male light stand tips or smaller. Even fits on mic stands. Don't over torque or the thread insert (a metal nut) will pull out of the plastic. Mine pulled out but I glued it back in.

Due to the limited power of a single bulb, it works best facing outwards within a reflective umbrella. At close range a softbox works okay but has a minor gotcha: the on-off switch is on the fixture, rather than the wire, so you have to open the box to power up and down.

I own six identical fixtures, but sold under three different brand names, and I'm sure they're all made in the same Chinese factory: same white box and hardware. The bottom-line is the Neewer does what it's meant to do: mounts on a light stand, adjusts and holds position, holds an umbrella and powers 85 watt CFLs fine.

There is a weird cracking noise when I screw a bulb into this thing. It works fine, thought. I'm just super-careful about doing that. If you baby it, it should be fine.

Why four stars - I just left another star to compare with bather build unit. But I do not need more. I'm using this for my umbrellas with fluorescent bulbs. They don't emit mach heat, so I'm not afraid of burning the plastic. At least for the price I'll buy few extra.

Color: 2x Single Bulb Socket & Dual Bulb Socket Verified Purchase
I got this double socket in order to experiment with continuous light. The quality is poor. Each light, and the middle section that accepts an umbrella shaft, move individually. It is most difficult to get all three of them aligned properly. I did not enjoy using the product. Perhaps if I had taken the time to glue the three sections together the fixture might have been more useful.

However, if you do not mind spending a lot of time fiddling with it each time you want to realign your light or umbrella, it will serve its purpose. Even so, one would need several of these to produce enough light to enable the use of apertures as slow as f4 or f5.6 (I shot at f1.8). Worse still, the output is even dimmer if a shoot-thru umbrella or softbox is used.

If you are sold on continuous light photography, you might want to look at fixtures that accept several bulbs. They are available on Amazon, they are inexpensive, and they might produce enough light to be useful. But if you simply want to light a mannequin and study how to position lights to get the desired shadow effects (this is my case), then this unit might be fine.

So to summarize, this fixture served my purpose. But most of you will be purchasing it to use as a studio portrait light; and it is not well suited for that use, in my opinion.
