3.0 out of 5 stars doesn't meet the hype, yet.
with all the hype surrounding this band i was really hoping to like this record. and when i heard the opening track i was pretty sure i was actually going to love it. there is a certain amount of hype this band has been receiving from critics in regards to their ability in relation to their age. i must admit that they really do shine considering most members arent even 20...

HOW INCREDIBLE THIS ALBUM IS! This album is a welcome step in the right direction for this talented young band. Decapitated's second full-length album, "Nihility", suffered from Decapitated's sophomore slump -- many songs felt lifeless and somewhat monotone. On "The Negation" Decapitated follow-up "Nihility" with an undeniable vengeance. The tracks are more distinct from eachother, and every band member has improved upon previous albums -- especially the vocalist!

"The Fury" explodes out of the gate with machine-gun riffing and crazy double-basswork from their drummer. The album's best cut, "Three-Dimensional Defect" follows, where the band truly show off their incredible musicianship.

"Lying and Weak" is one of the best death metal tracks recorded in the last five years.

All other tracks are really good as well. Decapitated close this album with a killer cover of Deicide's "Lunatic of God's Creation" -- although Decapitated stay true to Deicide's original they manage to improve upon it at the same time.

These young guys seem to be finally coming into their own. The vocals have become much more expansive than their first two full-lengths. Their drummer has been great from the get-go -- it's actually pretty amazing that he hasn't lost a beat, with already many years of aggressive drumming under his belt.

"The Negation" is a better album than "Winds of Creation". Don't get me wrong -- I think "Winds of Creation" is an incredible piece of death metal -- but "The Negation"'s solos aren't as predictable, the vocals are much fuller, and the production is clearer as well.

The only thing that amazes me about this album more than the music on it is many people's apparent dislike for this album. I find it incredibly hard to believe any fan of death metal wouldn't give this album at least four stars, depending on personal taste within the genre. This album convinced me Decapitated is one of, if not the, best Death Metal bands in existence right now --- (yes, this DOES mean that I'm grouping them with such greats as Nile, Opeth, Deicide, and Skinless--for all those of you who know about them).

I can't say it enough, THIS ALBUM NEEDS TO BE PLAYING ON YOUR STEREO, IN YOUR CAR, IN YOUR DISCMAN, ON YOUR ipod...whatever it takes...if you're still reading this review, then I guarantee you'll love this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Return of Future Death Metal Kings!, April 10, 2004
By
This review is from: The Negation (Audio CD)
Decapitated have returned with an album that will make any death metal fan lick their chops! After 2 excellent albums that helped bring the death metal scene back to life, these young polish lads have once again made an album that will be long remembered in the scene and extreme metal for that matter.
Firstly, this album is a lot better than 'Nihility'. Whilst Nihility was technical, 'The Negation' is more fast paced, heavier, and more to the point. For me, Nihility did lack something, whilst there were some great tracks, there were also some boring ones. The Negation doesnt lack anything! The whole album is a masterpiece. Sauron has improved his vocals a lot! The guitar work from Vogg is also amazing as well. Vitek's drumming is also nothing short of insane, a much bigger improvement compared to Nihility where the drumming was very over produced.
This is sure to be an album that any death metal fan will cherish. You wont be disappointed! The only thing that saddens me about this album is the fact that it only goes for 30 minutes. If only it were that extra 10 or 20 minutes longer! But it doesnt matter because it is still a great album.
There are only a few bands left that are keeping the true death metal scene alive. Nile, Hate Eternal and Decapitated. And as of this point in time, I think its fair to say that Decapitated are leading the way! These guys are still in their early 20's and have made 3 amazing albums, if they can continue this over the next 10 years, they will arguably be the one of the best death metal and extreme metal bands ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars Death Metal Domination, April 9, 2004
This review is from: The Negation (Audio CD)
Decapitated dominates and this album is probably the best death metal album of the year so far. Blistering fast drums and intense and technical guitar work and one truly amazing death metal vocalist makes for a killer album. This album is blistering fast moving along sometimes at paces that are unthinkable. Through it all, it is this band's musicianship that puts them above a lot of the competition. Everyone in this band is in their early 20's but even at their young age they are probably one of the best newer death metal bands out there. Other great bands from Poland are Vader and Behemoth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Decapitated - The Negation, April 11, 2004
This review is from: The Negation (Audio CD)
Poland's Decapitated are back with THE NEGATION, one of the most brutal death metal releases since, well, the last Decapitated record! These guys are young but play with an energy and passion that is well beyond their years. The drums are tight, the solos and riffs are killer and Sauron's death growl is as menacing as ever.

"The Fury" is a blazingly fast track that opens the CD and features an amazing solo by Vogg. "Three-Dimensional Effect" and the title track are a bit slower-paced (for Decapitated anyway) and Vogg once again pulls brilliant solos out of his bag of tricks. "Sensual Sickness" delivers some stunning riffs and brutal drumming from Vitek. The track features a middle section that is certainly an experiment to the typical Decapitated sound. It is slower and technical but retains the heaviness of a death metal record. "Calling," a short instrumental track, comes out of nowhere with riffs and weird sound effects that most death bands would never DARE put on their record! What Decapitated have succeeded with on THE NEGATION is taking their songwriting up a notch and it is on breaks and tempo changes like this that sets the band apart from the hundreds of other 90s Florida death metal clones.

THE NEGATION is one of the strongest death metal releases in a while. The drumming is top-notch, the guitars are sharp as a knife and the songwriting raises the bar on what is to be expected out of a death metal band. This CD should take Decapitated to the next level and any fan of extreme music is doing him or herself a great disservice by not having it in their collection.

KILLER KUTS: "The Fury," "Three-Dimensional Effect," "Sensual Sickness," "The Negation"

The sheer talent of this band is amazing and just because they play death metal doesn`t mean there not highly skilled musicians,in fact,in my opinion they are the best there is! The Negation is there 3rd album and it is the best one yet.Every song is awesome and has the trademark Decapitated sonic fury of speed, aggression, brutality and unmatched technical skill!!!Their guitarist Vogg lays down some of the best solo`s that i have ever heard in any genre of music let alone death metal! Do yourself a big favor and check this CD out, and all those searching for a new Death band to worship you might as well start at the top.....and their name is DECAPITATED!!!!

This was my first Decapitated CD. Wow. These songs just come at you like a fierce attack. And what balls to cover a Deicide track and pull it off at the same time. This definetly made me want to pick up their other releases. I gave this five stars for not only the great songs but the brutality at which they come at you. Great job from a band that I hope will be around for a long time to come.

SpacegrassMan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Woah!!, February 4, 2006

This review is from: The Negation (Audio CD)
I have to admit that when I first heard Decapitated's sophomore album Nihility I wasn't immediately impressed. They had great musicianship for sure, but the overall sound was sterile. Not wanting to write them off I checked out Negation. My God! This album is incredible. Simply uncompromising death metal. While the positive points of Nihility are heard here - original sounding solos, tight chunk riffs and incredible drumming - everything is just so much heavier and angrier, aided by a great production that really brings out the intensity of their performance (which I can atest to, I've seen them live!).

The riffs are simply brilliant. Far too many death metal bands these days focus on writing technical riffs that they don't write something that grooves. Decapitated's riffs however are absolutely devasting. Chunky, groovey, heavy as f*ck and very rythmic, they drive the music along in a way that you can't help but bang your head. The solos are incredible as well. Vogg's technique is great but he uses it in a way not seen in many death metal lead guitarists don't. The note choice gives a really eery atmosphere and he doesn't just try to play as fast as possible. All three musicians here are great instrumentalist's though (well, they are music students!). The vocals are sick - deep barked growling the way death should sound and achieved without using effects or cupping the microphone. There's something in the water, I tell you.

Anyone who calls themselves a death metal fan should not be without this album. Decapitated have released arguably their best album here (I got Winds Of Creation at the same time as this and its also a great album) and what is becoming one of my favourite death metal albums. Highly highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Decapitated does it again!, March 23, 2004
By
This review is from: The Negation (Audio CD)
Who are Decapitated? Well take the melody of Extol and merge it with the brutality of Origin, and then multuply the heaviness by 2 and there you have it. The musicianship is extrordinary. The vocals are good, the guitars are heavy, the drumming's amazing, and the lyrics are still intelligent. No raping, no anti-christian, and no gore lyrics, these guys try philosophy and they ask questions that many of us at one point or another have asked ourselves. This is definately a must have for any metalhead, but fans of Slipknot beware, this band is far to heavy and intense for you. Long Live Decapitated!

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty catchy, March 17, 2004
This review is from: The Negation (Audio CD)
This cd is very polished-sounding. The band seems to really have their act together and the playing is very tight. crystal clear production, and the riffs are very catchy. My only issue is with the vocals. The vocalist has only one pitch he sings (growls) in. It gets monotonous after a while, but thankfully, the music keeps it intresting. Very similar album to "Nihility", but this new cd may be a little more energetic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crushing, precise, Polish Death, March 16, 2004
By
Adam Hell (New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Negation (Audio CD)
If you like Polish Death Metal, get this album. It has that mid-range guitar sound that is like a technical buzzsaw ripping your face off; it has the ultra-tight precision drumming that is going to beat you to a pulp; and it has gut-wrenching vocals that brutalize you relentlessly. Creative leads add something extra to this also; Vogg has a really cool style.

The reason I didn't give it that 5th star is because I think the lyrical content leaves something to be desired; I wanted something more violent and less philosophical. Maybe philosophical would be good, just more creative than this. Neverltheless, it is hard to find original sounding Death Metal these days, but these guys bring something fresh to the scene.
