5.0 out of 5 stars Showdown, November 2, 2010
This review is from: Negima! Magister Negi Magi, Vol. 27 (Paperback)
This chapter of Negima finally brings the gladiator tournament to a close and saying it ends with a bang would be an insult to H bombs. The final fight between Negi and Rankan is epic and serves to remind one that Ken Akamatsu has an incredible eye. The action is intense and he doesn't skimp on the details. In the midst of all this we see Negi showing that despite his magic and training it's his brain that's his most valuable tool. Rankan shows that he's no dummy in the smarts department either which makes the fight all the more exciting.

This volume also gives us some real pathos from Ako as her feelings for Nagi finally come to a head. It's some really emotional stuff and it elevates her character to a level of development that few girls besides Setsuna have gotten. The range of courage, sadness and determination Ako shows here is sure to win her a lot of fans.

Tosaka also has some nice character moments and you can see him struggle with being the good person he really is inside and the urge to be the scumbag he's convinced himself he is. It's nice to see this amount of attention given to a side character and I have to commend Akamatsu for that.

Overall, this volume is well worth picking up.

This review is from: Negima! Magister Negi Magi, Vol. 27 (Paperback)
This is the 27th volume of the ongoing series about Negi Springfield, boy wizard and middle school teacher. Almost all of this volume is taken up by the tournament final battle between Negi and Rakan. If Negi wins, he will earn enough money to free his students from slavery. Another solid entry in the series.
