The Japanese have it all over Americans when it comes to recycling. Negima Magister Negi Magi started as a schoolboy harem manga series Negima! by Akamatsu (Love Hina), in which Negi's a master wizard, even though he's only 10, assigned to teach English at a girls' school, so he's surrounded by more than 30 cute schoolgirls in very short skirts. (Akamatsu's manga are popular because they serve a variety of fantasies but stay lighthearted instead of creepy.) Negima! became an anime, and then the cartoon was readapted back to manga in this series. Unlike the original comic, this version ran in a magazine aimed at boys under 12, so the characters are cute in a more innocent way, although there are surprisingly explicit panty-revealing scenes or other excuses for nudity once a chapter. The stories also concentrate more on adventure. The first story is original to this version and tells of Negi's graduation test, a monster-slaying quest that's a standard young man finds his inner strength tale. It also introduces his search for his missing father, to add more depth. The rest of the book features Negi protecting his students from a girl vampire, who's another student. (Feb.)

A mediocre spinoff of the hugely successful Negima: magister negi magi series. Since it's not even Ken doing the art, the art isn't too great. While the story seems to parallel the original, it's done in an uninteresting method. While it does follow the Evangeline arc close enough and does it much faster (it finishes in 2 volumes versus 3 in the original series), it is done poorly. It apparently is based off the second anime series for this series. However, true fans know that there is only ONE true Negima anime: Ala Alab OAD's.

Avoid this series and pick up Magister negi magi the manga instead.

When I first saw that there was a new Negima! manga series, I was kinda suspicious of the content. But right when I started reading this manga all of my fears were banished! It starts out at Negi's magic school, and quickly goes right into the storyline. It has elements from both the original anime, original manga, and the new anime. It has all the things the anime had, and all the things it didn't. While having all the things that were great in the manga. It was a refreshing breeze of new idea's and happenings, with an entirely different new art concept, that makes things you recognize seem new. It's more serious then Negima!? More Fantasy then Mahou Sensei Negima, and less fanservicey then Mahou Sensei Negima Manga.

All in all I think that this is a perfect item for the true Negima Fans. I mean with something this good, you just can't get enough of it. Regardless of all the versions out there, this series continues to inspire and uplift me.

If you like the original then you will like the spin off. Fun...boy wizards..magic.. Very funny and full of action.
