5.0 out of 5 stars How to make a normally unpleasent process pleasent
Negotiating is not something that I enjoy. Now at least I find it bearable, perhaps even I look forward to it. Why? I now have a clear instruction manual on how to prepare. I especially like the tear out page with movies, books, and other reference material to augment the lessons of the book. I am certainly a better negotiator, if only because I want to be there.

2.0 out of 5 stars You have to dig through a lot to get negotiating nuggets.
There were a few good tips on negotiating in this tape but they were burried among lots of other almost meaningless stuff. For instance, the author makes it a point to set your mission and values before beginning negotiations. OK, good point. But then he proceeds to spend 10 minutes or so on the subject instead of referring the reader to a book on the subject. Other...

4.0 out of 5 stars six easy steps to understanding a complex process, August 24, 1998
By A Customer
this book is great. you learn how, when and why to negotiate. there are six steps to the process and many of the pitfalls are discussed. sometimes you have defeated yourself before you have started. this was the best lesson of all. no matter what your profession is. just about everyone can use this information

4.0 out of 5 stars A definite for those who are new to the negotiating game., December 18, 2001

Having spent time negotiating sports sponsorship contracts, I have a new found love for negotiating. In reading this book, the authors have laid out a clear and concise program in which to begin, work through and close negotiatings. A great book for beginners and a good brush up for intermediates and pros.

For instance, the author makes it a point to set your mission and values before beginning negotiations. OK, good point. But then he proceeds to spend 10 minutes or so on the subject instead of referring the reader to a book on the subject. Other suggestions include speaking clearly ... making sure the other party hears "five" instead of "fine". Later in the tape he cuts short some negotiating tips for lack of time and suggests that the listener buy the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get the 2007 version and not the 1996 version, May 21, 2009
This review is from: Negotiating For Dummies (Paperback)
Don't be fooled by these other reviewers. Most purchased the (horrible, 1996) version of the book and not the (great, 2007) version of the book. Signal Processor, the only other modern reviewer at this time, reviewed the book in 2009. However, you can tell that he purchased the 1996 version because in his review, he states "authors" and not the "author" of the good version. This is actually the first review of the NEW version.

I've read the book Getting to Yes and was a little concerned that this may be dry as well. This doesn't seem like a tough subject to educate on; only tough to actually make yourself do. So with that said, I was impressed with the easy step-by-step (even on a audio level). I have a few more techniques in my arsenal that will allow me to more effectively use this skill. I also appreciate the fact that he points out to use it in even simple situations to gain experience. Would buy again that I've heard it? Yes.

1.0 out of 5 stars In one word "Bad", January 4, 2009
This review is from: Negotiating For Dummies (Paperback)
I am sorry I've bought this book:

1. The authors do not seem to know the subject well.

2. Lengthy, wordy.

3. Refers to films on every second paragraph.

4. Doesn't give any useful excercise, shows the opinion of a single author and lacks useful diagrams, images or quotes.

Bottom line - waste of time and money (and I do feel dummy for getting it)

2.0 out of 5 stars Look elsewhere, December 23, 2000
By A Customer
This book is very unorganized and not well presented. It's obvious that the author, who is a lawyer, has no experience writing books. I strongly believe that the author and the publisher have the ability to do a better job.
