5.0 out of 5 stars Methodical, Proven, and Empowering~, June 16, 2009

I was recommended this book when I was doing my campus recruiting and taking offers.. this book worked wonders. I firmly believe in Jack Chapman's strategy. It's methodical, logical, and empowering.

Specifically in my case, I was able to get an additional 10% in salary and start off at a position level ahead of my peers. And in my girlfriend's case, she was able to negotiate an additional 6% and 2 additional weeks of vacation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound advice at exactly the right time, March 17, 2011

I've read through the book twice, and then gone back to reference specific sections applicable to my current employment situation. Jack Chapman clearly knows what he's talking about and provides logical step-by-step instructions on negotiating remuneration in all its forms. He explains the psychology behind it and his common sense approach to negotiating fair market value for what you're worth is the best advice on this subject I was able to find. If you follow Mr. Chapman's methods and are unable to get the kind of salary that the market indicates you should - don't take the job, or start looking for work elsewhere. The information in this book is invaluable.

This review is from: Negotiating Your Salary 6th Ed (Negotiating Your Salary: How to Make $1000 a Minute) (Paperback)
I have been an industry leader in the employment and career field since 1989 and have read over 500 books in this genre. Without question, I would place Jack's book, Negotiating Your Salary: How to Make $1000 a Minute - the 6th Edition - in the top 10 that I have read. Jack remains a mentor and example to us all - and is always raising the bar of our profession.

5.0 out of 5 stars Especially for Woman, May 30, 2011
Although Chapman doesn't specifically single out women, this is an especially important book for the female job finder, as women are in general weak negotiators when it comes to salary. After reading this book, the female job finder will gain a new sense of confidence and be able to negotiate "just like a man."

Jack's book offers five quick salary making rules at the beginning for those who are in a hurry or have an interview the next day. The remainder of the book looks at each rule in depth and offers a variety of negotiating scenarios. Having attended one of Jack's workshops, I recommend you get the most updated version of his book as he has changed his philosphy on a few things...especialy on "Who goes first."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!, March 31, 2010
By

This review is from: Negotiating Your Salary 6th Ed (Negotiating Your Salary: How to Make $1000 a Minute) (Paperback)
This book is concise and to the point. It provides the reader with the tools and an easy to follow road map to negotiate an attractive and fair salary or raise. The road map is easily tailored to different situations, to your own personality, and communication style. Having read the book I now negotiate effectively in a way that is authentic and congruent with my personality and values. Jack distills down to the essence the components and different phases of a successful negotiation process. He provides real life examples of people who have negotiated good outcomes. Also, he provides examples of pitfalls and less effective negotiations that lead to less than favorable outcomes. I used to approach negotiation with dread, usually feeling unprepared and lacking the skills or just feeling that I don't get it. With this quick read I approach salary negotiation with confidence, feeling prepared, and have been satisfied with my success ever since. Good work Jack!
Thanks, Mike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent information. Glad I've read it!, November 16, 2011

I am getting ready to make a career change. I plan to make the move from grunt work to management. This book has given me the courage and confidence to move forward with my plan. I have had some hesitation, but now I am ready to plow forward! It is not a terribly long book, and it is an easy read. Highly recommended, no matter what income level you are at. If you make $25,000 a year, you could probably increase that to $35,000 by reading this. If you make $125,000, I'd be willing to bet you could step up to $200,000. There is also a section on performance reviews and increasing your salary at your current job. This book not only helped me understand HOW to negotiate salary, but WHY. It helped me understand what my true value and worth to a company is. My wife says that her confidence has been bolstered by seeing the change in me after I read this.
