Excellent!!!!!!!! I gave my first purchase to a friend who is also a lover of spirituls and hymns and purchased another for myself. I just had to share it with someone. The music is so moving. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone, regardless of them being a lover of spirituals and hymns or not. I plan on purchasing another one soon.

The simplicity of these beautiful songs creates a sense of space and wonder. Shows how less is so much more. I am not a very religious person but this music soothes my soul.

It was my pleasure to know Moses Hogan when we were students at Oberlin. He was a gentleman with a fine sense of humor and a musician of surpassing power. His early death was a great loss to American music.

This recording features his first singing group, the Moses Hogan Chorale, in fine form, singing tightly and with great spirit. Most solos are sung by the great Derek Ragin--hearing a countertenor adds a sharp edge.

Hearing this music made me glad to be alive, glad to have known Moses Hogan, and eager to go to church all at the same time.

This is one of the best recording of Negro Spirituals that I have heard. It is done superbly by
the Moses Hogan Singers and the various soloists: Derek Lee Ragin, Dr. Cheryl Clansy and Bridget Brazile.
Well worth the purchase and worth sharing. Could also be used as a teaching tool for choirs. Simply excellent!

This is a great collection of Spirituals that covers a wide range of Moses Hogan's work.

THere was only one piece that I thoroughly enjoyed and that was the solo on "My Lord, What a Morning," but I can tell you that one song made the purchase worth while.
