Upscale Aqualane Estates is a collection of four canal streets--Meadowood, Stanford Lane, Shelburne Lane and Ridgewood Lane--set on a gorgeous stretch of Little Sarasota Bay just north of Stickney Point Road. It was originally developed in the 1950s, Todd Currey of Signature Sotheby's International Realty explains, and started resurging 10 years ago when Gerard Pickhardt, who grew up there "and has a great fondness for it," did the first demolition-and-rebuild on a home at the western tip of Stanford Lane. (That home sold for $4.45 million in late 2005.) Pickhardt has since redone several others, but many smaller, older concrete-block homes remain. Current list prices reflect that, says Currey--as low as $415,900 up to $2,065 million...
