2.0 out of 5 stars Neighbors, everyone in Australia is sick of Neighbors., May 10, 2011

This review is from: Neighbours (DVD)
It's quite sad when shows that have been around for nearly 4 decades is still painfully being created on the soul fact that it's only audience is that of an overseas market. It's that show that started in the 1980's and gave birth to the stardom of the likes of Kylie Minogue, Russel Crowe, Jason Donavon and Guy Peirce, but it just seems to ride on the fact that it once had people who made big names for themselves, but looking at their acting ability in these shows, it's a wonder how they really rose to fame in the first place, maybe they just got-out in time and sought after a real acting role... tho Kylie went in another direction, as she is possibly in the top 10 worst actors of all-time category.

When this show first started, it was a B-grade soap opera about the people who live in Ramsey Street (somewhere in Victoria Australia) and somehow it became a smash-hit in the U.K. And that is what has kept the show on air ever since, as most Australian viewers grew tired of it by 2000, 20 years of the same-old nonsense happening to all these people who come and go from Ramsey Street... if you through realistically about it, the neighborhood must not be a great place to live after-all seeing as how the 10 to 15 houses of Ramsey Street seem to have new occupants living in them every season, but thats just nitpicking.

As I said, in 2000 or so, Australian audiences had grown tired of this dribble, and sought real entertainment, thats about the time another stupid show like this called Home & Away decided to shoot their simmilar show of boring community life into an attempt to take itself seriously and make audiences want to regurgitate several times a viewing at the pathetic attempts to win Logi awards (television awards of Australia that mean nothing to those outside of Melbourne & Sydney). How Home & Away is still remaining on air is anyone's guess, as too is how this show here can copy the same thing, film it like it's a movie, and attempt to do the exact same thing... yet, every year without fail, they lose... if they even get nominated.

I suspect with ratings down so low, they needed to cash-in and relieve the Golden Days when people used to watch the show, back int he 1980's, and so here is this DVD, a cheap collection of highlights from the 80's that would mean nothing to anyone who wasn't watching the show at the time. If you where a fan back then, you would know who the characters are in this highlights package, the moments that apparently rated high for the show... but watching it now, with no back story highlights to aid the highlights, this DVD is only good for those who want to go down memory lane and see the footage they saw during the times they saw the show... to everyone else who wasn't watching it, or weren't around at the time, it makes no sense as to why these are the "Defining moments"? It's just a cheap cash-in to hopefully spark someones nostalgic interest in something that rated on TV 30 years ago. Your only comments now will be, "Oh, doesn't she look much younger" and "Awwww, they kissed"... blurghh.... as for entertainment value to anyone else who might now watch the show (god knows why you would) or someone who is curious to see what the show was like back in the day... ZIP. 0%. Nil. Nothing. Nadda. Zilch.
