The Tool hole punches are off center at an angle therefore the punch does not do a clean cut through the leather.

Item received timely and would highly recommend this product.

This is the cheapest hand punch you can buy, and you shouldn't. The handles are made from formed sheet steel -- the razor sharp edges from fabrication have not been removed. If you buy or own one, smooth down those edges with a file or a knife steel, or you're going to bleed at an inconvenient time. The punches themselves are not removable and rotate into place. This wouldn't be bad if it was only for occasional use, but the punches are not 90 degrees and flush to the brass anvil on mine and therefore it doesn't punch clean holes, you have to clean out the scrap with a knife. If Chinese leather workers actually have to use this tool, I feel very sorry for them.

Summary: Spend a little more for a decent punch. Don't buy a PSO (punch shaped object).

This tool is very poorly made and not adequate for any leather. The wheel is not in sync with the pad and when trying to punch a hole the wheel turns. The supplier contected me an offered to send me a heavy duty tool which I thought was very generous. However since that contact I have not heard from the supplier. I offered to return the tool and to pay the difference for a more adequate tool but have heard nothing from the supplier.

Lightweight. Works well on belts made of material other than 100% genuine leather. Requires more effort on worn, softened leather. You get what you pay for.

I went to every hardware and craft store in my area and was not able to find a leather hole puncher. This tool did exactly what I needed it to do and it's so affordable. I'm very satisfied.

Shipping was fast. The tool had an issue:
The safety lever would not open. It was too long so it was not possible for it to slide/turn to open position. Had to use my file to file it down to correct length so it would turn open.
After that mod, it worked fine.
Punches holes through leather with no problems at all and the tips are sharp enough.

In my case, I had to fix it and made it work. So I rated it as OK (3 stars out of 5) because the price was right. You get what you pay for.

Now I am happy with it.

Will not recommend. Unable to poke thru my leather belt .. even got my husband to do it, no luck, it slips .. you're better off getting a nail and hammer.

First of all, the punch I received and the punch featured in the details are NOT the same. The one I wanted has a classic design unchanged since god knows when! I used the punch in the picture as a kid around the stables to fit tack.

This thing looks WAY different, it is as heavy as a murder weapon, and it has a locking bar on it to keep handles squeezed shut. For the life of me, I CANNOT figure out how to open it to use it. There are NO instructions on how to unlock it.

BALLS.

Update- gave to friend with both an engineering background and excellent hand strength. Solved the problem of how to open it.... Simply pull the handles apart forcefully and the locking mechanism will break. Voila! Ready for use.

Now that I got it functioning as intended, I lined up a few dog collars, belts and other leather items desperately needing punching.
So I squeezed and heard the leather go crunch! opened it to observe my nice new hole. It did not go all the way through. Punched again. No hole.

I had to punch each hole 3x and the holes look ragged and crummy. I have had horses and have used a rotary punch like this a billion times to fit bridles and stirrups. Trust me, the punches on this one REALLY suck.

Definitely not worth the money. What good is it if it doesn't work???? Amazon should allow 1/4 stars.
