4.0 out of 5 stars solid product - no arbor
I used this hole saw kit to drill holes in a granite counter top. It worked well, but I was a little surprised when I realized that the hole saws don't have an arbor or drill bit in the middle to help align them and keep them drilling straight. As I was unable to get my large piece of granite up on a drill press, I first used the bit to drill a hole in a piece of wood...

1.0 out of 5 stars Would not cut porcelain tile
Tried 3 of these hole saws and they could not cut through porcelain tile. THey slipped all over the place, and in the end the tile dulled the blade! I've returned these items and have bought Ridgid instead, which works reasonably well.

This review is from: Neiko 5-Piece Diamond Hole Saws, Tile Glass Marble Slate Tool - 3/4, 1, 1-3/16, 1-3/8 & 1-5/8 Inch (Misc.)
I used this hole saw kit to drill holes in a granite counter top. It worked well, but I was a little surprised when I realized that the hole saws don't have an arbor or drill bit in the middle to help align them and keep them drilling straight. As I was unable to get my large piece of granite up on a drill press, I first used the bit to drill a hole in a piece of wood then clamped that piece of wood to my counter top as a guide. I then filled the hole with water to cool the hole saw and I was able to drill down through the granite with a hand drill. It worked well, but I was expecting the saws to have a center shaft that would keep the bit centered on a pilot hole. Of course it would have been harder to keep the cooling water against the cutting surface if the bit had had a center arbor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Granite drilling, February 17, 2010

This product met my expectations and did the job and fast. It was granite countertop drilling, two holes 1.625 diameter for sink and faucet installation. The quality of the blades is decent although I would not call it professional. However for "advanced" and trifty handyman it was just perfect. The holesaw was a. guided by template, b. driven by cordless drill at about 1,200 RPM, c. light pressure was applied and d. lot of water was used during drilling. Drilling through about 1" countertop took about 2 minutes. The weight of the countertop was supported on three points, one, hardwood plank just under the hole. No chipping!

5.0 out of 5 stars Neiko 5- piece diamond hole saws, November 16, 2010

My wife wanted holes drilled into heavy champagne bottles in which to insert miniature Christmas tree lights. I tried carbide bits which broke most bottles or the holes were so ragged they were unusable. These Neiko diamon hole saws are the cat's meow; I have drilled 8 very heavy champagne bottles without any problems. They drill fast and they drill clean. Very good product at a very reasonable price. Or better said: " The right tool for the right job ".

I bought this set to put in an RO unit. I needed to drill through a 1" thick piece of granite. About half way through the bit stopped going down. After taking a look at it I realized it was completely shot. These things are junk so don't waste your money. Spend the extra $ and buy a good one!

Finding good tools to drill thru concrete is difficult. And these fill the bill. Now I have a choice when the need arises.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the DIYer, September 6, 2011

Bought these to put holes into a "granite-composite" kitchen sink. I drilled two holes with one of the hole saws, and the bit looks almost brand new. The chrome finish started to flake off a bit, but the diamond still looks unused. I used water to keep the saw from overheating (created an artificial pool around the area to be cut using plumber's putty). Then set your drill to a low speed, apply light pressure, and let the diamond saw do the rest.
If you plan on using these occasionally around the house for glass, marble, granite, and other hard surface cuts, they should be great for you. Probably not up to par for the daily user. Here's why:
Note that they do not include a center pilot bit; they are hole saws mounted to individual 1/4" shanks. Therefore, you may need to work out a way to keep your drill steady and level while you make your initial cut. Would suggest the other reviewer's method to cut a hole in a piece of scrap wood, and then clamp that to the surface that you will be cutting so as to keep the hole saw from walking and scratching your surface. Wouldn't want to be doing that if I had to drill a lot of holes, but not too bad for the once a year use that I anticipate. Overall, a great value.

My wife wanted to cut holes in glass candle holders so we could turn them into shades for a lighting system in our Master bathroom. I had no idea how to cut large holes in glass but after reading the included instructions that came with these little gems I was able to cut 14 pieces in no time and without breaking any of them. Needless to say, these hole saws made me look like a Rock Star in my wife's eyes. Very easy to use with a drill press and a little water. If you need to cut large holes in glass or ceramic tiles these little guys will make you look good.

The hole saw was the perfect addition to my tool chest. I'm installing some granite counters and it drilled the perfect faucet hole for me with minimal effort. I cut a tin can in half and hot glued it to the granite counter top. I filled it with water and started drilling my faucet hole. The bit didn't slip, and in 7 minutes I was done, no jagged edges and perfectly smooth circle.
