5.0 out of 5 stars A review of the torque wrench and a review of the reviewers
Everything works as advertised with this wrench. It's marked N-m and ft-lbs. My only negative so far is that you can't hear a click at the lower torque ranges, you have to look for the head to snap if you want to torque at the lower settings.

Regarding the other reviewers issues. I agree with the one poster who said it's hard to determine which increment...

1.0 out of 5 stars Two issues
I bought this to do maintenance work on the impressive Toro 1800 bought from Amazon. It has two issues which prompted me to return the item. First issue, it only works on right handed threads meaning that it tightens and torque sets in a clock-wise motion. The other issue is the stamped scale. It does not line up. This one reads between 5lb. and 10lb. when lined up to...

Everything works as advertised with this wrench. It's marked N-m and ft-lbs. My only negative so far is that you can't hear a click at the lower torque ranges, you have to look for the head to snap if you want to torque at the lower settings.

Regarding the other reviewers issues. I agree with the one poster who said it's hard to determine which increment you're on with wrench. You are always a small bit below when you get to one of the torque scale marks (or is it high :)).

To the reviewer who couldn't move the wrench past 30ft-lbs, that is because there is a lock nut on the bottom of the wrench that you have to loosen to get up higher. This nut is retighten when you get to your desired torque setting. I though the same thing when I couldn't move the wrench past 70ft-lbs, but I loosened it up and it went all the way up to 80ft-lbs as expected.

Also, it seems some people's wrenches are marked in inch-pounds, I recently got my wrench an it only had ft-lbs and N-m, so they may have change this or it may vary depending on which you get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Torque Wrench, May 9, 2008
This review is from: Neiko 3/8-Inch 10-80 Foot-Pounds Automatic Torque Wrench (Misc.)
I am a full time mechanic. I did not feel the need for a snap-on wrench at this time because i needed this wrench for the lower value foot lbs. The wrench works well and is accurate and should last me awhile with heavy use.

Was just what I needed that allowed me to finish the work I was doing on my car without having to bother folks to use their torque wrench. Highly recommended for the price, since I am a "back yard" type guy I feel this will do the job for me for a long time.

For an amateur occasional mechanic (basic things like chaning oil or spark plugs) I've been happy with this wrench. Gets the job done. Reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars is, like someone else mentioned, it's a bit difficult to read the numbers on the side. Also the markings are curved in such a way that makes it hard to tell whether you are at 20 or 25, for example.

Otherwise, it's a good value for someone who doesn't want to spend for professional-grade.

1.0 out of 5 stars Two issues, December 21, 2008

I bought this to do maintenance work on the impressive Toro 1800 bought from Amazon. It has two issues which prompted me to return the item. First issue, it only works on right handed threads meaning that it tightens and torque sets in a clock-wise motion. The other issue is the stamped scale. It does not line up. This one reads between 5lb. and 10lb. when lined up to 'zero' after rotating the end of the handle. This makes it difficult to determine which it is. Although I'm sure it's rather accurate to 4%, the quality of the calibration mixed with the omission concerning right/left handed-ness in the product description earned just a star.

I bought this adjustable torque wrench to work on my VW. The service manual called for specific torque settings. This wrench was quick and easy to set and use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just so you are aware..., May 29, 2009
This review is from: Neiko 3/8-Inch 10-80 Foot-Pounds Automatic Torque Wrench (Misc.)
Just so everyone is aware... The wrench doesn't even have ft-lbs. It is in INCH-lbs and YOU have to multiply by 12 to get the number. This is really annoying, since the conversion chart, the other reviews, the product description, ALL say that it is in ft-lbs. This wrench works well, but the product description is horrible and leaves a lot of important info out...

I bought this simply because it was the cheapest torque wrench I could find with an acceptable level of quality. I had seen cheaper but wasn't so sure if they'd work well or not. I don't use this wrench on a daily basis, more just occasional use and it works great. I do wish it was maybe 100lbs to 110lbs but 80lbs is enough for my needs. Yes there are much better torque wrenches out there, but not at this price. For occasional shade tree mechanics its pretty ideal.

I am a handyman type home owner and not a pro mechanic. I had 12 manifold bolts to torque, read the directions on use which was less than 5 minutes and it took another 5 minutes to complete the job! WOW that was easy and the price was right. I love shopping Amazon!

I got this mostly for working on my motorcycle. It's super simple to use: just twist to set torque, tighten, then crank until you hear a click. I think it's great.
