I bought two of these for my garage and it worked as pictured. I was surprised how easy it was to pull the bike up to the ceiling. I was worried my wife would have a hard time using it but she had no problems. I don't have any kids but I imagine this would be perfect for kids bikes.

Keep in mind that when you install this it should be screwed into a rafter. If the rafters run in the wrong direction simply use a board perpendicular to the rafters which will provide an excellent place to screw the lift to.

This product works as intended, but has some drawbacks that could be easily rectified by the manufacturer.

1: The pulleys are too narrow for their housings, and this allows the rope to slip onto the side of the pulley and jam.
A wider pulley or narrower housing would cure this.

2: The ceiling pulley assemblies are not designed to mount length wise to the ceiling joists. You are asked to mount a long board to ceiling If you want to run the pullies parallel to the joists.
Not OK.

3: Rope is frail and showed fraying just from the installation.

4: Hooks aren't hooked enough. They can be bent more, but the material used for the hooks is tough. (Unlike the rest of the parts)

Otherwise, its OK but the pulley thing is kinda of a drag

I have 4 of these hoists 2 for bicycles and 2 for kayaks. I beleave the pullys and other partes are capable of heaver objects such as the kayaks but the supplied screws are suspect so I went to the lumber yard and bought heavy truss screws. The rope is subject to fraying and if you are not carefull will occasionaly slip off the pully. I have 10.5 foot ceilings so I tied a loop in the end of the rope so if it slips up I can get it with a boat hook.

I found this product to be functional but a bit flimsy. I ordered two, one for my MTB and the other for my road bike. Installation is simple as is the operation; but the hooking mechanism needs to be better designed as I've had both bikes come loose while hoisting them, once while I was standing directly under it. I've modified mine with hardware store hooks that won't slip off the bike and have it come crashing down on my head. I would strongly advise that children not be allowed to use this lift unless you are 100% confident the hooks are secure.

A 4-foot 2x4 serves nicely to mount the pulleys on. The pulley assemblys are plenty stout. The provided screws are tin-plated crap - the heads stripped even with pre-drilled holes on a 2x4. Had the same problem as other reviewers with the rope slipping between the pulley and its housing. The rope tends to flatten and is low quality. Upgrading to a 1/4" or larger nylon rope should improve the operation.

This is a great product. Our garage ceiling is much too high to simply put up hooks. This bike lift works awesome with a pulley system and is very easy to install. The hardest part was simply finding the ceiling joists (ours were spaced 24" but I was expecting 16"). We installed 4 lifts and now the bikes sit high above the cars until we are ready to use them. Highly recommend and the price was great as well.

Great for the price the locking mechanism isn't the best though It keeps on locking when i try to put the bike down but hey compared with the 40 dollar option of the same bike lift at other stores you cant beat it!!

Not too bad I guess. The rope is of poor quality and the whole contraption seems to be rather cheaply made.
I will buy a better unit next time!

Product is great for the money. My only concern is that I have a 14 foot ceiling and the rope is not long enough. Product states that it should be fine for that height, but the rope needs about 2 more feet.
