4.0 out of 5 stars Easy lug nut torque wrench
I needed a torque wrench to properly install my wheels when rotating my tires. This wrench is easy to read and use in this application. I checked it's accuracy with a high end professional digital wrench and it was accurate.

3.0 out of 5 stars Why Beam-Type Torque Wrench is not Popular

I decided to get a beam type torque wrench because I was reading around that it was more accurate than a click-type and that it requires no maintenance. After using it, I can see why the click-type is preferred now.

I went back to buying another, hopefully, excellent quality accurate click-type wrench. For this beam-type torque wrench, the 3/8" side is useless, which is what I need, since the scale was reversed as noted by the other reviewer. I used an adapter on the 1/2" side, but reading was still difficult since I was using all my strength and body weight to get to 80 ft/lbs. I had to make sure I was in a perfectly straight visible position of the scale to prevent parallax error and still be able to pull to 80 ft/lbs. Not only that, the beam was shaking since I was in an awkward position to pull the wrench while reading the scale so my arm muscles were shaking to maintain 80 ft/lbs. I was using it to torque wheel lug nuts. I might be weak, so other people might have better success than I did to prevent the shakiness and strain to pull to the desired torque value without shaking.

For a basic torque wrench this works just fine. Although it's described as a dual drive, the 3/8" side is difficult to use because the torque guage is facing the wrong way making it difficult to impossible to read while using. If using the 1/2" drive side though it works just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price, September 12, 2009
This review is from: Neiko Classic Needle-Style Dual 3/8-Inch & 1/2-Inch Drive 0-150 Ft./Lb. SAE & Metric Torque Wrench (Misc.)
I bought this primarily as an extension/breaker bar to get more torque than a regular ratchet. The torque indicator works fine. I got around the problem with it being not visible when using the 3/8 by putting tape on my desired torque, so I know to stop when the needle hit the tape.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well with an adapter., April 28, 2010

This is a good light purpose torque wrench. The long handle provides good leverage for loosening tough bolts. If you are going to be working with sockets other than 1/2" you will need an adapter. The 3/8" side is useless as a torque wrench because the face of the gauge is on the 1/2" side. I went to Sears and for $7 bought a 1/2" female to 3/8" male adapter. Here is a similar adapter on Amazon: K-Tool International (KTI22050) 1/2in. Female to 3/8in. Male Socket Adapter. Torque wrench works well for the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars For the money, good deal, August 15, 2010

The wrench arrived with a reading of 5 Ft pounds registering, so if you need precision, spend more and order another model. My needs were not for precision, and I only needed a torque wrench for a very limited use (once or twice), and it was simple to subtract the 5# starting measurement and get close enough for my needs.
On a packaging note, the shipping container was large enough to hold dozen or more,a waste even though Amazon sent my shipment with no extra charge.

I bought this for occasional use for my bike. I chose this beam-type unit since I've heard that the click-type wrenches (especially the cheap ones) can lose their calibration over time. I didn't want to invest in a quality click-type wrench since I use it so rarely, so this seemed like a good alternative.

I never use 1/2" sockets with it, so it's somewhat inconvenient that using a 3/8" socket requires flipping the wrench over so you can't read the scale.

On my bike this hasn't been hugely inconvenient since I can almost always see either side of the unit. If I were working on something like a car where it's no so easy to see the other side of the wrench it might be a more serious drawback.

But, for the price, I can't complain, it does what it's supposed to.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wrench broke 1st day, December 19, 2010

This wrench is fine as long as you don't push it to the limit. I was torquing head bolts on my engine and the smaller 3/8 drive broke right off the wrench. For small jobs I'm sure it's fine for the price.

reminds me of the torque wrench i used back in high school. helpful having both size attachments - even though the torque reading is one side no problem here. If you have trouble using this wrench you need to workout or perhaps received a defect - don't see how you could have a problem with a tool so simple.

I'm not too impressed but perhaps at this price I was hoping for too much. It's the first torque wrench I've owned and I bought it to torque the lug nuts on my small travel trailer. I find it awkward to use and hard to read the scale when exerting torque. Even when not in use the indicator does not read zero. It left me with no feeling that I had tightened the nuts properly. Should have bought something of better quality.
