1.0 out of 5 stars don't buy
The caliper does not always return to zero - about 1 out of 10 times it skips .2". That makes it useless because I don't know if it skipped on the way out or on return - cannot trust that device.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitively a good hit for your buck, March 18, 2010
This review is from: Neiko Tools Pro-Grade 12" Inch Digital Caliper Stainless Steel LCD Measuring Tool (Misc.)
"Up-date" I have this cheap tool for more then 30 days. Not only it is still working fine but I prefer using it then my expensive one. First because the display is big and clear. but also, For the 12" because the slim construction, I can have a comparasion pitch diametor fast and easy to a diametor as largs as 3" down to 16 pitch (1.5mm) The sleep mode did enoyd me a couple of time but I got use to it and slide the calipper before use. I kind of feel like saying I like it more then my certify one...

At first I give a try to the 8", I did like it. Now the 12" is on the bench:
I use as much a caliper as I do use utensils when I'm eating. It's an extension of my hand. I only get the best (certify Mitutoyo) and I paid for the last one well over 450$ for a 8", on special. Of Corse it's the have-it all with printer capacity coolant proof and solar power... Well I thought giving a shot to the 8" for 20$ and now this 12" for near 40$. I use the 8" all the time and the 12" one or twice a day. I have the 8" caliper for more then 10 days now and a couple with the 12". Well I did test it and I would say I'm impress.

Out of the box, un-adjusted, not calibrated or certify I do get the same read-out of different condition and length and it give the same variation or derivation as my fancy one. Mean inside of 8 1/8" and 12.05" I will have a measurement with in .0015" .0030"TTR for these low prices. Wow, in't bad... I have friend who use these POC from china and I always smile. Well may be not that much any-more. No it's not certified and calibrated one but does the work. It's very likely will not last 25y but tomorrow I will have the 8" one in my pocket and use the 12" as much as I can, first because the display is twice as big...

Pro
-large display, good large angle of view
-fast dimensions acquisitions
-convert SI to inches in a flash
-Easy to zero and keep-it
-battery saver and come back fast and keep the accuracy
-good positive lock (doesn't change the nominal dimension)
-The 8" Has the same size and capacity as the "good price one" and the 12" look like they just extend the jaw and the leingth (skinny and flimsy compair to my 1400$ one...
-You drop-it or bad thing happened to it, you can afford to have a couple spare one...
-I did drop the 8" a couple of time and did survive and maintain the accurency.
Con
-Coolant incompatible
-Ruff and sharp, does feel flimsy
-Material quality (not as good as a 250$ basic expensive one)
-no memory
-no printer capacity LOL!!!
-the 4 point of measurement are not 100% associated (can increase the TTR to .005") mean, if you look at a shaft 6.124", the hole can read 6.126" and won't fit because they are both 6.125". If you don't mind at all a thousand, you are in business. Any way if you need to see thousand, you need to read a ten of a thousand mean 1000$ more expensive toys.

I will re-comment, if: The battery doesn't last, lost it accuracy, the materiel degrades or gets damage too easily. But for a tool box precision tool, it's very good. Especially if .005" mean not much for you and .0010" dispersion is Ok. NB.: if I need a read-out with in of .0010" I will not trust my Mitutoyo anyway.

... I would recommend-it to a friend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Caliper feels chincy, May 15, 2007

There is a reason a Mitoyo costs more. This one feels loose and a bit flimsy in your hand. Have not tested its accuracy.

It only worked for a week. Battery has a bad contact and the LCD is not working.

Not purchasing this brand ever again.
